Blyth Atoms finish
season with big win
The Children's Aid Society's 19th
summer camp program is turning
out to be one of the best ever, says
Sue Munnoch, co-ordinator of
Volunteer Programs.
To date 170 children have been
registered and are participating in
residential or day camp programs.
"Every day more children are
added to our list and we anticipate
a total of 200 children to have a
wonderful time this summer, all
through the generosity of the
people of our community," Ms
Munnoch said.
Children from all over Huron
County participate in this camp
experience. Ages range from four
to 14 years.
There are four camp employees
in 1993. Two positions are funded
through the federal government's

Development program, with two
Ontario Transportation Minister
Gilles Pouliot said July 29 the
government will continue to
promote bicycle helmet use and
safe cycling to prepare Ontario
cyclists for the mandatory use of
helmets in two years.
"Increased awareness and
education, along with legislation,
has the most potential for
improving cycling safety," said
Pouliot. "Safety is our first priority,
that's why we gave our support to
his measure."
Pouliot's comments follow
Wednesday's final reading of Bill
124, a private member's bill
introduced by London North MPP
Dianne Cunningham, which makes
the wearing of bicycle helmets
mandatory on Oct. 1, 1995.
The two years prior to the
implementation of Bill 124 will
give the government more time to
promote the use of bicycle helmets.
During that time the government
will work in partnership with safety
and community groups, police,
cyclists and helmet manufacturers
to encourage safer cycling and
increase the number of cyclists
voluntarily wearing helmets.
"We know that head injuries are
responsible for 75 per cent of all
cycling fatalities and that helmets

Ms Munnoch says, this year's
weather has been perfect for this

local church halls or libraries
working on quiet, craft activities.
"We are all looking forward to
next year when the new Children's
