The Brussels Tigers dropped their first two games played this past week, then swept a Sunday doubleheader to finish the Huron County Fastball League schedule with 10 wins, six losses and two ties. Monday night in Seaforth, Coops Sports held the Tigers to four hits enroute to a 9-0 win while Wednesday night in Brodhagen the Walton Brewers scored five runs in the fifth inning for a 6-2 decision. Sunday afternoon Ken Higgins cleared the left center field fence for a three run homer in the third inning then started a four run fifth Belgrave PeeWee boys take 2 Tigers have winning season . The Belgrave PeeWee boys ball team squeaked out a narrow victory on July 19 against Brussels. The game was played in Bel- grave, with the home team winning 16 to 15. Holding a lead of 13 to five after three innings, the boys were able to withstand the comeback attempt by the Brussels team who scored 10 runs in the last two innings. inning rally for a 7-0 mercy of the Brussels Bulldogs. The Belgrave team countered with three of their own to take the win. Runs were scored by: Michael McBumey, four; Jeremy Campbell, two; David McBumey, two; Jamie McCallum, two; Marc Alexander, two; Robbie McGee, two and one each by Kevin Campbell and Michael Sanders. The Tigers will be participating in the annual Brussels Fastball Tournament this weekend. Walton on July 22. Belgrave took an early lead with six runs in the first inning and they never looked back. The team won 12 to two. Runs were scored by; Jamie McCallum, two; Kevin Campbell, two; Jeremy Campbell, two; David McBumey, two; Victor Buchannan, two and one by Michael McBurney and Dean Walker. A well balanced and skilled Newton team handily beat Brussels 7-2 on Wednesday, July 21. The Newton team was able to keep Brussels hemmed in their own end and only an aggressive defense on the part of Brussels led by Bronwyn Dunbar with Sarah Exel and Amy McDougall kept the Newton team from scoring more frequently. Matthew Snyder had a busy night in goal. Exhibition games split by Squirts Blyth Squirt Soccer team has been having a very busy summer. On June 28 there was an exhibition game in Clinton which they lost. On July 12, the team travelled to Holmesville. A number of players showed very good sportsmanship volunteering to play for the short- handed home tea. On July 19, Blyth hosted an exhibition game against Clinton. This game was won 6 - 2. Steven VanAmersfoort scored the first goal, then was assisted on the second by Duane Buffinga. Steven scored twice more with assists by Scott McLellan and Amanda Cook. Amanda took a penalty shot to score the sixth goal. Justin Peters was goaltender. Team members are as follows: Danny Cullen, John Battye, Joe Oliver, Dane Corneil, Jesse Hakkers, Adam Oliver, Tasha Cook, Korey Machan, Christopher Sanders, Taylor Hesselwood, Allison William George, Nicholas Packer, Kyle McNeil. On the few occasions when Brussels was able to get the ball to the forwards Terry Nichol beat the Newton defense. He scored both goals for Brussels. After cutting the Newton lead to one, Brussels was unable to hold off the Newton team, who put in a strong final half and put the game beyond Brussels' reach.
