The council of Colborne Twp.
held its regularly scheduled
meeting on July 6.
Councillor Stewart Steenstra,
chairman of the Recreation
Committee, advised council that
the Township Picnic would be held
on Sunday, Aug. 22 at the Falls
Reserve beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Games are being planned for the
children and a family barbecue will
be held. The Committee is still
negotiating prices for the barbecue.
Council, again discussed the
possibility of entering into a Road
Maintenance Agreement with Ken
Brindley and the Hunter's Beach
Cottage Association. An agree-
ment is necessary in order for the
possible Zoning Amendment to
Ken Brindley's property to permit a
farmers' flea market.
Frank Ewald was present to voice
his objections to council's treatment
of his Zoning Amendment
application. Council had denied
Mr. Ewald's request to rezone his
property at Part Lot 16, Conc. 7,
E.D. to permit a permanent
residence.
Mr. Ewald stated he had been led
to believe that if approval was
received from the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority and the
Huron County Health Unit, council
would pass the rezoning. Council
denied the rezoning because the
property is located in the flood
plain of the Maitland River.
Anne Chisholm appeared before
council to request the weeds and
long grass on the vacant lots in
Maitlandview Estates be cut.
Council advised Mrs. Chisholm
that the property owners had been
contacted. If the properties were
not cut at a designated time, the
County Weed Commissioner would
be contacted.
Mrs. Chisholm asked if council
could look into this matter earlier
next year and council agreed to
look at the situation at their May
meeting.
Council authorized payment of
the bills and accounts for the month
ended June 30 in the amount of
$469,007.35. This amount
included requisitions to the Huron
County Board of Education in the
amount of $232,187.33, the Huron
Perth Roman Catholic Separate
School Board in the amount of
$23,728.41, Huron County in the
amount of $84,654.48, and the
Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority in the amount of
$6,090.95.
Council approved a tax extension
agreement with a municipal
ratepayer, a Tile Drain Loan based
upon the availability of funds from
the Ministry of Agriculture and
Food for John and Anna
Refflinghaus, and an Ontario Home
Renewal Loan for Ross and
Darlene Brindley for well
construction.
Council was advised that the
provincial government had reduced
the Township's unconditional grant
by $10,220. as part of the
provincial government's Social
Contract. Council must make up
this money through other means.
Council requested Clerk Stewart to
prepare a summary of the Social
Contract and possible areas where
this reduction could be made up for
their next meeting.
Reeve Vanstone reminded
council that Colborne Township
Cemetery Service would be held
Sunday, Aug. 1 at 2:00 p.m. Rev.
Ian McWhinnie would be the guest
minister.
