INSURANCE FOR FARM, RESIDENTIAL COMMERCIAL AND AUTO"

A piece of Morris Township his-
tory has returned to stand as a
memorial.
Clegg's School was built in 1870
on the south half of Lot 6, Conc. 5.
When it was refurbished in 1901, a
cement nameplate was placed
above the front entrance.
In 1981, the property was pur-
chased by Evert and Liz Stryker.
Nine years later they decided to
tear down the building and replace
it with a new home.
Mr. Stryker decide that it would
be the "proper thing to do" to retain
the old cement nameplate as
memorial to the school.
As a youth, Mr. Stryker had
attended three one-room school
houses though Clegg's was not one
of them.
The family decided to plant the
nameplate in the front corner of
their property in the approximate
location of the old school.
The nameplate now stands in a
place of prominence, surrounded
by a flower garden.
Mrs. Stryker says, "The name-
plate is drawing a lot of attention
and passersby are stopping to com-
ment."
The Morris Township landfill
site will be the object of a water
monitoring study to determine the
quality of water near the dump.
Council authorized Golder and
Associates of London to proceed
with water quality testing of the 50
acre site.
The June 15 meeting of council
was informed by Mr. Spivey of the
Maitland Engineering Services,
Wingham, that after the monitor-
ing program was established, the
water would be tested twice a year.
The study, at a cost of $9,200,
will determine how the site should
be operated.
The minor variance was accepted
for the Webster property, Lot 1,
Conc.9. as long as five conditions
are met.
These conditions are: meet
Huron County Planning Depart-
ment conditions, animal units do
not exceed 260, variance be com-
pleted within two years, the liquid
manure tank be in compliance with
the Township of Morris' liquid
manure by-law and all neighbours,
agencies' and other municipalities'

concerns be answered.
The major reasons for allowing
the variance were the absence of
objections and the immediate need
by the Websters, for an improved
storage system.
Council approved the installa-
tion of seven street lights in Bel-
grave, by Pletch Electric of
Wingham. The estimated cost for
six lights is $2,780.
Several issues on road mainte-
nance were discussed: this year
road side mowing will be done to
the fence on the north side and only
one swath on the south, next year
will be reverse; ditching will be
done soon along Dan Litchy's to
help keep crops back from the road;
sideroad 5-6 to Howson Elevator,
Conc. 9 requires widening.
Councillor John Duskocy sug-
gested the road employees should
be working on the construction on
Centre Sideroad. Councillor
Duskocy was informed the employ-
ees were busy but construction
should begin the week of June 21.
Deputy reeve Clem McLellan

service Clegg's school employed 35
different teachers and saw great
fluctuations in attendance. One of

Belgrave United Church, informing
them of the poor state of repair of
Sunshine Cemetery.
Alex McTavish relayed to coun-
cil that the Wheels Away program
would like to increase the fee for
transportation to defray some of the
costs.
CN offered to purchase the CN
line from Lot 14, Conc. 1 to the
Brussels town limits.
A meeting was held with the
effected landowners on June 24.
