Greeters at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, July 11 were Shirley
and Les Rutledge. Ushers were
Ferne McDowell, Vera Badley,
John Hesselwood, Betty Hoegy and
Harvey Snell.
Rev. Ramirez opened the service
with the Call to Worship, Prayer of
Approach, Prayer of Confession,
Silent Confession and Assurance of
Pardon. The hymn, "We Praise
Thee, 0 God," was sung.
The sacrament of baptism was
performed on two infants, Kabrena
Paige daughter of Cherida and
Edward Riley and Grant Rufus
Sparling II son of Steven and
Laurie Sparling.
The scripture reading was taken
from Matthew 13: 1-9, 18-23. The
congregation then sang the hymn,
"Ye Servants of God".
Rev. Ramirez explained to the
children about the scripture and
how ministers are like the sower.
They are sowers of God's love,
God's wisdom and God's kingdom,
he said.
He made the comparison to
flowers growing in the garden.
When the flowers are blooming it's
easy to tell which are the weeds,
but when flowers go to seed it's
hard to tell them apart.
Special welcome went out to the
grandparents of the two baptized
children, Keith and Janet Schuman
and Laurie Sparling's parents, also
to Jean and Lloyd Tasker and Ora
and Arnold Bruce, parents of
Cherida and Edward Riley.
Special thanks to Linda Wilson
for arranging flowers in the church
from the gardens of Ken and Bea
Chambers, the Ramirez's and
Linda's.
The anthem "Wonderful Words
of Life" was sung by the choir.
The sermon theme was "A
Choice of Ways". Rev. Ramirez
said, "At times our choices are
unending." According to the
scripture, he said, there were
choices of soil on which the seeds
could fall, the hardened path, the
rocks, the thorns or the rich soil.
Rev. Ramirez then took the
congregation on a mental tour of a
supermarket. The first choice to
make was the laundry detergent.
So many choices all claim cleaner
clothes, whiter whites so many
varieties. Next there is toothpaste;
again several choices.
Then there are diapers, baby
food, etc.
So many choices. Our Lord
Jesus Christ had choices also, Rev.
Ramirez said. He could have
On Sunday, July 11 the worship
service of the Blyth Christian

and opening hymns, Mr. Datema

entitled "Worship is Normal".
This Psalm tells us to remember
God's goodness and dependability
and then to worship with
Thanksgiving and praise. God is
our creator and good shepherd, he
said. He made us and He cares for
us. Mr. Datema said, when we
acknowledge God as our creator
and His son as our Saviour then
worship is normal.
The congregation prayed for

chemotherapy treatments and also
for John Wiersma who is

grown up to be a carpenter like his
father, or a fisherman like the ones
who lived near by. But he chose to
be a sower to spread God's word.
We should ask ourselves is the
gospel being upheld in our own
home? said Rev. Ramirez. Jesus
met all sorts of people from kings
to the very poor. Some may have
been against him but he went on
sowing the Word of God to his last
human breath on the cross. He kept
teaching and sowing.
Although it's difficult we must
choose to spread the gospel and
work of God in our homes and our
lives.
We must sow our seeds of God's
love no matter how difficult, he
said.
The final hymn "Now Thank We
All Our God" was sung.
