Ethel Hall to receive repairs
SCOTT - GIBBINGS
Ontario Street United Church
was the setting for the wedding of
Gerald Carl Townend of Toronto,
the son of Carl and Katherine
Townend of Carleton Place, and
Marni Joy Gibbings, of Toronto,
the daughter of Bob and Donna
Gibbings of Clinton, on May 15,
with Rev. David Woodall
officiating.
The maids-of-honor were
Rhonda Lobb of Kitchener and
Melanie Mann of Toronto, friends
of the bride.
The bridesmaids were Donna
Taylor of Coboconk, friend of the
bride, Catherine MacLean of
Grassie, cousin of the bride and
Pilar Schrapp of Niagara Falls
(friend of the bride). The flower
girl was Avril-Anne Hamilton of
Clinton, friend of the bride.
The best man was Brian Taylor
of Coboconk, friend of the groom,
and the ushers were Jamie
Gibbings of Clinton, brother of the
bride, Rob Townend of Carleton
Place, brother of the groom, Jamie
Carlson of Kitchener, friend of the
groom, and Brent Townend of
Carleton Place, brother of the
groom.
Singers at the wedding were Fred
Lobb, Bob Mann and Jerry Cox,
friends of the family.
Special guests at the wedding
were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Townend
of Carleton Place, grandparents of
the groom, Mrs. Vera Gibbings of
Clinton, grandmother of the bride,
and Mr. Jim Smith of Brussels,
grandfather of the bride.
A wedding reception was held at
the Goderich Township Hall in
Holmesville. After a honeymoon
trip to Niagara Falls, the couple
will reside in Toronto. (Mac
Campbell photo).
A general Ethel Hall Board
meeting was held on Tuesday
evening. After some discussion it
was decided to put up a new
chimney and install a couple of
new windows as funds allow.
Since the Hall Board is pleased
with the numbers at the summer
euchre parties they have decided to
continue for the summer with
perhaps some time off during the
winter months.
There were 11 tables of euchre at
the most recent euchre party.
The 50/50 winner was Bob
Bateman; most lone nands, Beryl
Smith and Harold Metcalfe;
receiving the game skunk prize
were Eva Harrison, Violet Smith,
Social contract
cuts more from
local budget
Brussels apparently will face a
further $9,441 in provincial gov-
ernment cuts but where the money
is to come from is something of a
mystery.
Last month councillors learned
the unconditional grants to the vil-
lage had been cut by $4,052 under
provincial government cutbacks.
This month word was received that
the village was supposed to cut
back a further $9,441 under the
"social contract" reducing salaries
of staff. But under information now
available it's understood employees
making under $30,000 a year are
exempt from cuts. Only one village
employee makes $30,000 so it is
impossible to save $9,441 in salary
cuts.
Acting Clerk-Treasurer Lori Pipe
said the legislation has not been
passed in the legislature so infor-
mation is still lacking. It seems
likely, however, that the village is
going to have to make cuts in other
areas in order to make up for
reduced grants.

The next euchre will be July 12
at 8:30 p.m.
Bill Eckmier is recuperating in
the Listowel Memorial Hospital
with a broken ankle which he
received in a fall off a roof. He is
wished a speedy recovery.
Congratulations to Kevin and
Alicia Deitner on the recent arrival
of their new baby girl.
Mrs. Alice Caimey of Toronto
visited with the McMahon family
on Saturday and paid a visit to her
sister Eleanor Mason, a resident of
Huronlea in Brussels.
