Brian Oldfield plays
for All-Ontario team
Blyth council has had to deal
harshly with the Blyth Industrial
_ baseball league.
Dave Cook, arena manager, told
council on June 29, there are six
players, two on each of three differ-
ent teams, who have not paid their
dues from 1992 and continue to
play this year.
The fee that is due is a nominal
$10, commented Councillor Steve
Sparling, and it is difficult to
understand why the sum has not
been paid, he said.
The players have received sever-
al notices with no response to any.
Council asked Clerk-Treasurer
Helen Grubb to forward a letter to
Paul Kerr, league president,
requesting the suspension of all
teams on which these people play.
It was also recommended by Mr.
Cook that in the future council not

Tigers split
week's action
Brussels Tigers split their games
over the past week giving them a
six win - 3 loss - one tie record in
Huron County Fastball League
action.
Wednesday night in Clinton
Todd Uhrig singled home Danny
McKay in the seventh inning for a
6-5 win over the selects.
Tied at one, Brussels scored four
runs in the fourth inning, for a 5-1
lead only to have Clinton tie the
score in the fifth.
Uhrig pitched four innings,
striking out six, with Doug Conley
taking the win striking out four
over three innings.
Sunday night the Walton
Brewers handed the Tigers an 8-3
loss breaking open a 3-3 tie with
two runs in the fourth, one run in
the fifth, and two more runs in the
sixth.
Conley took the loss pitching six
innings while Mike Watson struck
out two of three batters faced in the
seventh.
Rick McDonald and John
Huether shared pitching duties for
Walton, while offensively Roger
Humphries and Scott Robinson
each hit solo homeruns.
Monday night the Tigers
travelled to Zurich to play the
Rangers, then play the Thunder in
Bayfield Thursday night.
Seaforth Coops Sports are in
town Sunday night for a 7:30 start.
Belgrave beats
Walton 9-1
Belgrave PeeWee Boys were
poor hosts on June 28, trouncing a
visiting Walton team 9-1.
Walton scored their only run in
the top of the first, while Belgrave
jumped ahead by one after the
McBurneys, Michael and David
crossed the plate.
Kevin Campbell added one in the
second, then the McBurneys plus
Dean Walker topped it by another
three in the third.
Jamie McCallum and the McBur-
neys scored the runs in the fourth,
which included a homerun by
David.
Holding the Walton team back
were pitchers David McBumey and
McCallum.
On June 26 and 27, Belgrave
played in a ball tournament in
Stratford.
Despite a display of spirit, they
lost all the games.
On July 2 the team travelled to
Seaforth where they lost 15-7.
Runs were scored by Jamie
McCallum, who hit a homerun in
the first and crossed the plate two
more times, Jeremy Campbell,
Michael Marks and Tom Pfeiffer.

Rev. Banks announced that for
the summer months children's time
would be spent doing Biblical
quizzes with God's children of all
ages. This week, the congregation
got all the questions right.
Rev. Banks warned they'd be a
little tougher next time.
The usual sermon was replaced
today by Rev. Banks and Patty
Banks who performed two Biblical
sketches called, 'Noah and the
Nosy Neighbour' and "Who said
Animals were Dumb?" The skits
were taken from a book called "A
Funny Thing Happened to Me on
My Way Through the Bible,"
written by Martha Bolton, who has
written for Bob Hope.
In the prayers for the family of
God, Hugh and Malinda Johnston
were mentioned. Hugh has recently
suffered a stroke and is in the
Wingham hospital.
The sacrament of the Lord's
Supper was served by Marion
Godkin, Marilyn and Don
McDonald, Laverne McClure and
Viola Kirkby.
Stewardship, a popular topic in
many churches, is the caring for
God's world and all that is in it. It's
the giving of one's time, talents and
money to help do the work of God
through the church. With summer
months taking their toll on church
attendance here are a few Steward-
ship stories from 'Illustrated
Unlimited'.
In "The minister's involvement
with stewardship," a man calls at
the church and asks if he can speak
to the Head Hog at the trough.
The secretary says, "Who?"
The man replied, "I want to talk
to the Head Hog at the trough".
Sure now that she had heard
correctly, the secretary said, "Sir, if
you mean our minister, you will
have to treat him with more respect
- and ask for 'The Reverend' or
'The Minister'. But certainly you
cannot refer to him as the Head
Hog at the trough!
To this, the man responds, "Oh, I
see. Well, I have $10,000, I was
thinking about donating to the
building fund."
Secretary: "Hold the line - I
think the Big Pig just walked in the
door."
A Brussels youth has earned a
great honour.
Brian Oldfield, the 10-year-old
son of Jim and Darlene Oldfield of
Brussels, has been chosen to play
on the All-Ontario baseball team
for his age division.
Brian is the pitcher for the Brus-
sels Mites. He has been playing
baseball for five years and can play
many positions though pitching is
his favourite.
Brian was spotted by the coach
of the All-Ontario team when the
