Christmas & Country wins window contest
All in a row
The Metro Toronto Winged Wheels performed for a crowd
at the Blyth Rutabaga Festival on June 26. The motorcycle
team was an exciting spectacle with maneuvers such as
the zipper which required great precision.

One bad inning of baseball cost
the Brussels Tigers the Seaforth
Fastball Tournament Champion-
ship as the London Gators rallied
with three runs in their last at bat
for a 4-3 win.
Two overthrows to first base, a
lost fly ball and an opposite field
bloop single were the only mistakes
the Tigers made in an otherwise
excellent weekend of softball.
Tied at 101 after three innings,
the Tigers scored twice in the
fourth for a 3-1 lead and while they
had the tying run on base in the
seventh, fell short by a hit.
In their best ever representation
at the Seaforth tournament Brussels
received excellent pitching from
Doug Conley and Todd Uhrig,
defensively gave up eight runs in
four games, while offensively Gary
Pipe batted eight for 12 and Ken
Higgins hit seven for 10.
The Tigers opened the
tournament with a 6-1 win over the
Wyoming Rebels. After Wyoming
opened the scoring on a suicide
squeeze in the third, Ken Higgins
hit a three-run homer to lead the
Tigers to a five-run fifth inning.
Dan McKay added a solo shot in
the sixth while Doug Conley struck
out eight batters for the win.
Game two saw the Tigers score
three times in the first inning
enroute to a 7-0 mercy of the
Seaforth Bears. Todd Uhrig pitched
the win and went three for three at
the plate as did Gary Pipe.
In the semi-final action Brussels
scored four runs in the second
inning to defeat the Embro Jrs 5-3.
Conley went five innings for the
win with relief help from Uhrig
who struck out six of seven batters
faced for the save.
The consolation final was won by
Blyth Decor with a 1-0 win over
Wyoming.
The Tigers travel to Clinton
Wednesday night and return home
to play the Walton Brewers Sunday
night at 7:30.
It was close, but Belgrave Pee-
Wee boys were edged by Brussels
13-12 in a home game last week.
Dean Walker and David McBur-
ney scored for Belgrave in the first,
while Brussels notched one.
Crossing the plate for the home
team in the second were Michael
McBurney and Michael Marks.
Brussels tagged on one more.
Brussels moved ahead with eight
in the top of the third, while Bel-
grave runs were scored by Jamie
McCallum and Walker.
There were three more for Brus-
sels in the fourth. Belgrave had a
good inning with five crossing the
plate. They were: Marks, Walker,
McCallum, David McBurney and
Jeremy Campbell.
Kevin Campbell scored the only
run of the fifth.
Belgrave pitching was split by
Jamie McCallum and David
McBurney while Kevin Campbell
and Marc Alexander shared catch-
ing.
