Staff helps residents adjust

amazing at how many residents
recognized landmarks on the drive
over. Brussels wasn't a foreign
place any longer."
"The staff worked miracles in
helping the residents adjust," she
says. "They pulled together as a
team. I can't tell them enough how
proud they should be of them-
selves."
The staff as well is making the
transition; a total of 60 employees,
including 30 in the nursing depart-
ment made the move from the old
Huronview; though for the 10 who
reside in the Brussels area, the
move is a welcome change. "It's
nice to be working closer to home"
says Carol Stevenson, a Health
Care Aid, who had been at Huron-
view since last July.
Ms Surgeoner says, though there
was some early reluctance from
staff who lived closer to Clinton,
they have worked out a car pool
system and seem to have settled
into the Huronlea routine.
Though staff have the option of
moving back to Huronview if a
vacancy becomes available, Ms
Surgeoner says she doesn't see that
happening. "I think it says a lot
about how comfortable they are
here," she says. "That is not to say
that one is better than the other, but
moving back would be an adjust-
ment again."
Beth Lovell, an RNA who
resides in Exeter says she would
probably not go back if the oppor-
tunity arose. "I'm feeling comfort-
able here."
A health care aid from Clinton,
Melissa Wilson, says the residents
seem happy in their new surround-
ings and she enjoys the hominess
of the smaller facility.
"The staff feels a small facility
has a lot to offer," agrees Ms Sur-
geoner. "They learn the needs and
personalities of the residents better
and get to know their co-workers."
Running smoothly
With staff and seniors adjusting to their new surroundings
life at Huronlea is progressing smoothly. The official grand
opening set for June 25 is timed perfectly for Seniors'
Month.
Happy to be here
Smiling faces are a common sight in the hallways of
Huronlea as residents settle in to the new surroundings .
Congratulations Huron
on the completion of the new
Huronview and Huronlea complexes
We at Langford Lumber were pleased to
have been a part of the building of Huron County's
Seniors Homes, providing a wide variety of building
materials to both Huronview and Huronlea.
