It's estimated that most people need twice as much as they're getting now. That amounts to about 25 to 30 grams of fibre each day. It sounds like a lot of fibre, but it's not hard to get if you choose the right foods. McKillop council decided to defer their decision on a specialized transit system for disabled and senior residents of the township. The meeting held on June 1 brought a delegation of 12 people to provide information for council. The service would allow for a more independent lifestyle and employment opportunities for some. According to the proposal presented by the delegation approx- imately 59 residents would be effected. Mr. Joseph Terpstra advised council that he proposes to build two liquid manure storage tanks on Conc. 14 , North Part Lot 14 for the expansion of the hog operation. Mr. Terpstra opposed the by-law which requires him to construct covers for the tanks, because the cost would be excessive. Council retained the by-law. Two land severance applications were approved; Douglas and Gail Shroeder, Conc. 8, Part Lot 26, 20,625 sq. ft. providing water was supplied, and Herman and Chris- tiane Hoste, Conc. 2, Lot 24, 100 acres. The council agreed to pay one- third of the estimated cost for paving the turnaround behind the McKillop Township Garage. The total will be approximately $7,490. Shorthanded Blyth Atoms strike first The Blyth Atoms soccer team played in Lucknow on June 8. Blyth was greatly outnumbered as only 10 players were able to attend the game. However, Blyth scored first when Jeremy Van Amersfoort netted a pass from Darwin Buffinga. Van Amersfoort scored again after stealing a pass from the Lucknow goalie, giving Blyth a 2-1 lead at the half. The players soon began to tire and Lucknow scored two goals in the second half to win the game 3-2. Blyth goalie Peter Nonkes made some excellent saves to help keep his team in the game. On June 15 a short-handed team played host to Goderich United. Blyth lost 7-2 with both goals being scored by Dave Ansley on passes from Van Amersfoort. Sebrina Buffinga added an assist on the second goal. Special thanks to squirt player Steven Van Amersfoort and Danny Cullen who helped out. Goderich scores 3 in first Continued from page 8 Blyth team their first regular schedule loss. Goderich came out strong, scoring three goals in the first half. After half time the teams were evenly matched. Both teams scored two goals. Blyth's were scored by Courtney assisted by Ansley and Jud Hakkers. The second scored by David Ansley, assisted by Christina Black. Final score, Goderich 5, Blyth 2. The next game for the Mosquitoes is June 28 in Belgrave against Lucknow Eagles. Note - One player was forgotten on last week's writeup, Diane Mason.
