Carvers
Carving has traditionally been Dad's job and just because
it was Fathers Day it didn't mean these two fellows would
be relieved of the task. Morris Twp. Reeve Doug Fraser,
left and Bill Coutts lent a hand to help out at Duff's annual
Country Supper this past Sunday.
A quiet moment to meditate on
an Approach to God and the Call to
Worship opened Sunday morning
service at Bluevale United Church
with Rev. Banks presiding.
Passages of scripture were read
from Genesis 21: 8-21 and Romans
6: 1-11. Nancy Corrigan read from
Matthew 10: 24-33. The choir's
anthem was "I Will Sing" with
Etoile and Mary Lou Johnston as
organists. Eileen Sellers arranged
two floral bouquets to adorn the
altar. Paul Johnston and Glen
Sellers were ushers for Sunday
morning.
Rev. Banks spoke to the children
about fear and they told him the
things they might be afraid of. He
assured them that Jesus was
watching over them just as God
was watching over the little
sparrow when it fell. In his sermon
he said, "To be human is to fear".
He told of the Biblical characters,
David, Ruth, Moses, Peter, Apostle
Paul and even the women who
went to the tomb and found it
empty, who had experienced fear.
The service closed with the hymn
"Filled With the Spirit's Power",
followed by the Benediction.
Church members were reminded

FOR THE MILLIONS WHO CAN'T READ
GIVE THE GIFT' OF LITERACY
Five million Canadians cannot read or write well enough to function in today's society. If you could not read or
write, you would face fear, danger, poverty and humiliation every day. Invest in the future of 5 million Canadians
who need literacy skills to function fully in our society. •
The Canadian Give the Gift of Literacy Foundation (CGGLF) is a non-profit organization working to make adult
illiteracy in Canada a high-profile issue and to raise money to assist Canadian groups already working for literacy.
Canadian learning materials are urgently needed; CGGLF funds are used to assist literacy groups throughout
Canada to produce materials for adult learners and/or tutors.
