"I want to clarify you don't have to vote," he said. "If you want to keep talking and just agree, I sense you can do that within the next hour." Although it was felt there was a consensus at the meeting, a motion was made to form a DHC. Making the suggestion to go with a DHC was Ken Engelstad of Goderich, who noted, "It is my opinion there were not enough negative responses to questions asked," to warrant not forming a DHC. "I've heard nothing to change the decision I've come up with ... I support it." "I'd be glad to second that motion," added Vincent. With the motion on the floor, Carroll asked all the committee members whether they had come to a decision, and when the microphone was passed around, all said they had. "I believe you have reached a consensus," Carroll stated, then took the vote, which showed a unanimous positive decision from the 17 members in attendance. Now that the decision has been made, the steering committee will move into its next phase - deciding on the option of forming a joint DHC with Perth County or joining with an existing DHC in the area, such as the Grey-Bruce, Thames Valley or Lambton DHCs. The possibility of joining up with Perth was a popular choice among those members of the public who took part in the public hearings and filled out surveys for the steering committee. The release states, "The large majority of respondents to steering committee hearings and surveys indicated that the best route for Huron to meet Ministry of Health minimum population requirements for a DHC is to join with Perth County. Sub-committees of the two DHC Steering Committees have been established to examine some of the common boundary issues together." This issue will be under discussion at the next meeting of the steering committee, to be held at 7 p.m. on June 23 in the Clinton Town Hall. It is also expected the committee will review some of the factors that caused them to vote 'yes' for a DHC. All meetings of the steering committee are open to the public. Over the next several months, the steering committee will also be discussing the structure, gover- nance and membership for the local DHC.
