What fear brings to mind
By Don Vair, Belgrave
If I were to ask you to put in
writing what comes to your mind at
the mention of the word FEAR, I
wonder what you would say?
You might begin with a
dictionary explanation of fear; and
then proceed to describe specific
things; people, issues, or situations
that strike fear into your heart.
You also may state there is good
fear and bad fear and you would be
right.
Would you think to discuss a
different kind of fear; the fear of
God?
I have specifically started out
with the kind of fear that most of us
think of when the word is
mentioned, to differentiate between
the two.
By far the most characteristic use
of fear in the Bible when associated
with God, is a reverential awe of
God. It is an attitude of profound

respect, and overwhelming sense of
wonder.
For those who truly love God it is
sad and easy to see that as we have
departed individually and as a
nation from the Bible, so comes the
corresponding lack of reverence
and awe of almighty God.
This lack of fear can be seen in
government and tragically within
the organized church, amongst
those who propound doctrines that
are in direct opposition to God's
clear pronouncements found within
His divinely inspired Word. It
would seem that these so called
servants of God do not even
possess the first kind of fear in
relation to God.
The fear of God is in fact a
definition of true religion in the Old
Testament. Job 28: 28 says "And
unto man He said, behold the fear
of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to
depart from evil is understanding."
Psalm 111: 10 says "The fear of

JOHN WILLIAM HAVERFIELD
John William (Bill) Haverfield of
Fordwich passed away suddenly on
Saturday, June 12, 1993 at Listowel
Memorial Hospital in his 71st year.
He was the beloved hsuband of
the Lord is the beginning of
wisdom, a good understanding
have all they that do His
commandments; His praise
endureth forever."
Deuteronomy 10: 12 says "And
now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy
God require of thee, but to fear the
Lord thy God, to walk in all His
ways, and to love Him, and to serve
the Lord thy God with all thy heart
and with all thy soul."
When you believe in God with
all your heart and specifically
according to the scriptures, then
your belief in and awe of God
touches virtually all areas of your
life.
What a different world it would
be if our leaders really feared God.
How different our own worlds
would be if we as individuals loved
and feared God.
Do you truly fear God? Think
about it.
Phyllis Haverfield and the loving
father of Janet and David Smith,
Cambridge, John and Joyce Bolan-
der, Fordwich and Don and Marj
