This regulation applies to river valleys, flood plains, watercourses, wetlands, lakeshore gullies, and inland lakes. Before any kind of filling is begun in such an area, a permit must be obtained from the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA). "No one deliberately plans to damage the environment," noted Rick Steele, MVCA Resource Planner. "But people have unwittingly placed fill where it damaged the vegetation in a wetland or where it increased flooding on neighbouring proper- ties. Fill regulations help to prevent such occurrences." Filling includes the placing or dumping of any material that changes the contours of the ground, including earth, sand, gravel, rubble, and garbage. To learn if a property is subject to fill regulation, contact the MVCA at (519) 335- 3557. Those planning to purchase a property should contact the MVCA first to see if the land is subject to regulation. selling from $100 to $105 to the high of $116.50. Stephen Township Reeve Tom Tomes announced June 4 that a tri- municipal committee of Stephen Township, Bosanquet Township and the Village of Grand Bend will be working together to involve other area municipalities in keeping Centralia College open. Reeve Tomes, who is also Warden of Huron County, is asking the Ministry of Agriculture and Food for a six month freeze on the move towards closing Centralia College and Vet Lab Services. "We want them to put a temporary halt on the break-up," he said. The Tri-Municipal group is seeking a grant from the Ministry of Economic Development to do a feasibility study on the future of the college. John Russell, deputy mayor of Bosanquet Township, said that the Tri-Municipal group is seeking private partnerships to keep the college open. "The local government is showing leadership and we're asking for expertise from industry and business to keep the college open," Mr. Russell said. Mayor Tom Lawson said that one possibility for the college would be the operation of an aviation school, using the residence and class room facilities at the college along with the air strip in the Huron Industrial Park. John Russell added that many other options for programs offered at the college could be considered in the feasibility study. Mr. Russell stressed that for the BALER TWINE Now Available • Grand Harvest 9000 • Bridon Orange 9000 • Bridon Orange 20000 Brussels Agri Services at the stockyards PAGE 14.
