Brussels Squirts lose to Goderich Almost Hullett PeeWee Girls pitcher Tammy Vincent makes a valiant attempt at getting this Goderich runner out at home during the game June 8. Hu!lett went on to win 16-12. Brussels Midgets win 2 The Brussels Midget Girls met Fordwich on May 17. Lisa Alexander and Cheryl Howes combined for five strikeouts and Holly Dauphon hit a home run in the second inning to help the team to an easy victory. With a 25-7 victory the team says "it is a great way to start off the season. Now we are full of confi- dence. In their second game of the year • On May 31 Belgrave PeeWees Boys were defeated by a visiting Seaforth team 9-5. Scoring for Bel- grave were Dean Walker, two, Jere- my Campbell, Marc Alexander and Jamie McCallum. On June 3, Belgrave travelled to Goderich where they were downed 9- 4. Crossing home plate were Jeremy Campbell, Michael Sanders, Michael McBumey and David McBumey. Belgrave hosted Goderich June 7 and were trounced 10-2 by the visi- tors. Kevin Campbell got both Bel- grave runs. Belgrave and Brussels met in Brus- sels for a hit parade on June 11 with the visitors getting 23 runs to the home team's 12. Scoring for Be'grave's second were Victor Buchannan, David McBurney, -- — Bryon Bowman's three hit, 11 strikeout performance led Soundproof to a 7-0 mercy of the Brussels Tigers in a game played Wednesday night in Blyth. Doug Shaw, Brian TenPas and Pete Exel were the only Tigers to reach base while Soundproof scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth, and two in the fifth for the win. Mike Watson took the loss despite striking out eight Blyth batters. Sunday night in Brussels the Exeter Sooners failed to show for a 7:30 start. The Tigers have appealed to the league regarding umpire and ball diamond costs as well as whether the game is awarded or rescheduled. The Tiers next home game is on May 31, the Brussels girls trav- elled to Monkton. The pitchers were hot again with Tricia Zehr and Cheryl Howes combining for 11 strikeouts. Lori Perry hit a home run in the third. The team was victorious again with a 12-8 win. The team says "they love a game with a time limit. We started at 7:00 and were fin- ished by 8:20 pm." Marc Alexander, Michael Sanders, Robbie McGee, and a home run for Michael Burney. In the third David McBumey hit a home run, while Michael Marks, Marc Alexander and Michael Sanders added to the Belgrave score. Kevin Campbell crossed the plate in the fourth, while Dean Walker, Jamie McCallum, Jeremy Campbell, Michael Sanders, Kevin Campbell and Robbie McGee crossed the plate in the fifth. In the final inning Marc Alexander, Michael Sanders, Robbie McGee, Dean Walker, Jamie McCallum and Jeremy Campbell scored. Team members wish Adam Gar, . mss, who broke his leg, a speedy recovery. Sunday at 7:30 against Blyth . Soundproof. A strong Goderich team trounced the Brussels Squirts 10-1 in a game in Brussels June 8. Despite solid pitching from Nathan Conley and Terry Nichol, who struck out a total of five through five innings, the Goderich offensive notched two in the first, seven in the third and one in the fourth. Brussels spoiled the shutout in the fourth, when Joshua Gropp hit a double down the first base line to bring home Richard Armstrong. The team had better luck on the road Wednesday night beating Bel- grave 14-3. Brussels was on top in the first when Nathan Garland hit home Paul Albers, while pitcher Mike Lawn Bowlers begin season The Brussels Lawn Bowling Club held their first tournament of the season June 10. The weather was just right, the greens were good, and 20 teams participated. The following skips ended the day in the money. First, Joe Higgins, Mitchell, three wins, 29 plus one; second, John Kanderma, Stratford, three wins, 33; third, Len Brubacher, Elmira, two wins 37 plus seven; fourth, Roy Durst, Stratford, two wins, 36 plus one; fifth, Gordon Bosman, Brussels, two wins, 34 plus one; sixth, Hartley Davis, Mitchell, two wins, 34; seventh, Ken Barbour, Brussels, two wins, 33 plus one; eighth, Don Haines, Clinton, two wins, 33; ninth, Cliff Ashton, Clinton, two wins, 31 and tenth, Les Douglas, Brussels, two wins, 24. Consolation winner was Helen Haynes of Mitchell with one win, 15 plus seven. The Brussels Club ladies served a delicious meal between the second and third games. A good afternoon was enjoyed by all. Cooper shut out the home team. The score remained unchanged in the second, but a five-run third inning for Brussels put them well ahead. Jason Armstrong tripled to bring home Tyler Bragg. A bases loaded walk and a double ended the scoring for Brussels. Belgrave spoiled Cooper's shutout in the home half of the third getting one run. A triple by Gropp and a hit bats- man contributed to the five run fourth inning for Brussels, while Belgrave tagged on two more dur- ing their at bat. While Cooper, who pitched a complete game, held the home team at bay for two more innings, Brussels added three more in two innings. S ports Hard times for Peewees Soundproof trounce Tigers
