Blyth and Hensall Legion installs new executive
On Friday, May 28 the Blyth and
Hensall Legion held a joint
installation of new executive
members for the branch and
auxiliary.
The new executive for Branch
420 are as follows: Sgt.-at-Arms,
Ralph McCrea; secretary, Bob
McInnes; treasurer, Donna Govier;
service officer, John Stewart;
chaplain, Rev. James Came;
executive committee Bob Hillis,
Susan Haggitt, Colleen Bell, Keith
Lapp, J. Clare Vincent, Brad
Montgomery, Alan Caldwell and
William Vincent; second vice, Bob
Hillis; first vice, Gordon Haggitt
and president, Donna Dougherty.
Mr. and Mrs. George Lamont of
Fleming, Sask. and Mrs. Dorothy
Lamont of Moosomin, Sask. are
visiting with Mr. and Mrs. James
Lamont.
Mr. and Mrs. Gamer Nicholson
of RR 5, Brussels, and Mr. and
Mrs. Rob Nicholson of Listowel
visited last weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Ron Nicholson and Sherri of
Barrie.
Mr. and Mrs. John Clark,
Heather and Karen of Paisley
attended the morning service at
Knox United Church, Belgrave.
Following the service they were
dinner guests of Mrs. Mabel
Wheeler.
Mr. and Mrs. Elston Speiran of
RR 2, Brussels visited on Sunday
afternoon with their cousin Mrs.
Ruth Johnston.
Mrs. Ruby Hanna spent the
month of May visiting with her son
and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs.
David Hanna and their family of
North Battleford, Sask. She also
spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs.
Alma Reddick at Biggar, Sask.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cook spent
last week at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. James Cook and family of
Owen Sound.
The annual Armstrong Reunion
was held at the Belgrave Women's
Institute Hall, June 6 with 48

president, Brenda Finlayson.
At the general meeting held on
June 3, Cpl. Bradley Montgomery
Jr. was presented with a cheque of
$500 to help cover his expenses for
his trip to Bermuda this summer
with the cadets.

Mary and Larry Martin, Sheila
and Terry Armstrong, Diane and
Mark Taylor were in charge this
year. During the afternoon games
and contests were enjoyed,
followed by a delicious pot luck
supper.
Those attending were from
Bluevale, Cranbrook, Bamberg,
Walton, Teeswater, Auburn,
Lucknow, Ripley, New Hamburg,
Dublin, London and Belgrave.
The June meeting of the Evening
Unit of the UCW met at the home
of Mrs. George Michie with 22
members answering the roll call by
sharing a memory of their father.
Mrs. Les Shaw opened the
meeting by welcoming everyone
and thanked Mrs. Michie for the
use of her home. She read a poem
"Growing Friendship."
Mrs. George Johnston had charge
of the worship on "Faith". "Just as I
am Without One Plea" and "My
Faith Looks Up To Thee", were
sung. Scripture reading from
Hebrews II, 1-10 was read by Mrs.
Laura Johnston. Mrs. George
Johnston read a meditation on
"Faith" and closed the worship
with prayer.
Mrs. Gordon Bosman introduced
the guest speaker Mrs. Betty
Graber of Brussels, president of the
Sports Officer Bob Hillis included
such activities as five BPS students
representing the branch at the
Track and Field competition, and
recognition of John Verway's
achievement at the Dominion
Competition at darts in Sault Ste.
Marie.
A report from PRO included an
update on the military in Huron
display at the Goderich Museum
which is to run from Oct. 14 to
March 1994.
In this report a request was to go
to the members and local groups
for three-dimensional objects
pertaining to WWI, WWII and the
Korean War. The display would
also include sport shirts of teams
the Legion has sponsored in the
past and present. Auxiliary
members are asked if they could
contribute pictures and artifacts that
would recognize women's
contribution to the war.
If anyone has any of the above

Huron-Perth U.C.W. Her thoughts
followed the teaching of Paul's
letter to the Philippines. She urged
members to "listen, learn and leap"
in these changing times.
Mrs. Ross Anderson thanked
Mrs. Graber and presented her with
a gift.
The September meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. Gordon Bosman
with the roll call "A highlight of
your summer holiday."
Mrs. Ross Anderson told the
highlights of her stay at
Westminster weekend. The theme
was "A Time-for Everything".
Mrs. George Michie on behalf of
the Evening Unit presented Mrs.
Peter Tucker with a farewell gift
prior to her departure to Elliott
Lake. Mrs. Tucker thanked
everyone.

a contest and the meeting closed
with everyone repeating the
Mizpah Benediction.

A motion was made and
seconded for the ladies auxiliary to
proceed with their plans to renovate
the back room of the Legion Hall
according to their plans.
Renovations to the washrooms
downstairs and front steps are
being made by the branch as soon
as possible.
Upcoming events include:
Decoration Day, June 13 at 2 p.m.;
Canoe Draw, June 26; Legion Zone
Slo-pitch Tournament, July 10 at
Lucknow and Craft Table at the
Thresher Reunion weekend.

The Bluevale and Wingham area 4-H clubs held their
achievement night on Monday, May 31. Four members
were honoured for involvement in several clubs. Cheryl
Danlow (left), of Kitchener completed 24 while Cheryl
Allen, of Wingham finished 12 clubs. Other members
reaching high levels of acheivement were Kari-Anne
Nicholson, Bluevale, 12 and Ann Garniss, of Wingham
completeing 18.
