Maitland Resources, a joint venture between Sifto Canada and Philip Environmental, proposes to establish a storage and placement facility for post recycled industrial residuals in the Sifto Goderich rock salt mine. The mine is located on lands in the Goderich harbour. The proposal may include a sorting and recycling facility et the mine site. The type of materials under consideration will be limited to carefully selected and screened solid, bulk, post recycling residual industrial materials. The materials to be considered for placement in the mine will include solid industrial waste. Approval of this proposal may be required under provincial and/or federal legislation, including Environmental Assessment Act of the Province of Ontario. Evaluation of the proposal will involve a study of all environmental, transportation, safety, land use, economic and other factors associated with such a facility. Maitland proposes that this evaluation be carried out with full public participation by the Goderich community. As the first steps in the process-of evaluating the proposal, Maitland will hold a public meeting and form a public Study Group. The Maitland Environmental Assessment Study Group How to Get Involved Public participation in the evaluation of this proposal is important. Maitland proposes to form an Environmental Assessment Study Group and invites applications from all citizens interested in membership. The Study Group will play a vital role in the evaluation of the proposal, The Study Group will include representatives of Municipal Government, the blic at large and Maitland. The news from uburn Compiled by Mildred Lawlor Phone 526-7589 Guest Speaker attends Knox United Church Golden moment Friends and family of Annie and Norman Vincent gathered at Auburn Hall on Saturday afternoon to honour the couple on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. Vincents celebrate 50 years of marriage Mr. Richard Bain of London conducted the service at Knox United Church. Bernice Gross was organist. Choral Invitation to worship was sung, followed by the Prayers of Approach and Confession. "We Praise Thee, 0 God" was sung; then Mr. Bain had conversation with the children. The Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison after which the congregation sang the children's chorus "Jesus Bids Us Shine." "We Praise Thee 0 God" was sung. Mr. Bain read the scriptures from Micah and Matthew. "He Leadeth Me" was sung. Mr. Bain's sermon was "What's a Life For?" He also gave the pastoral prayers. The offering was received by Ken Ramsey and Michael Bakker and for the Sunday School, by Becky Archambault and Amanda Dunbar and dedicated in song. "Who Is On The Lord's Side?" was sung. Mr. Bain pronounced the benediction. Rev. Dr. A. 0. Thomson officiat- ed 50 years ago, June 5, 1943, when Norman Edward Vincent of Blyth took as his bride, the former Annie Lavina Leatherland. This past Saturday, family and friends gathered at an open house in Auburn Community Hall to help the couple celebrate 50 golden years of marriage. The wedding ceremony which marked the beginning was held in the brides family home near West- field. Her parents were Edgar and Wilhemina Leatherland. The groom was a son of John and Addie Vin- cent. Attending the couple were the best man Harold Vincent and maid- of-honour Viola (Leatherland) Raithby. June (Leatherland) Bolger was flowergirl. Following a honeymoon trip to Auburn Missionary Church members were pleased to have Tim Harden of Kitchener as guest soloist on Sunday, June 6. Pastor Carne's message, "The Unchanging Christ" was from Hebrews 13: 8. 'What is the most essential thing in your life?' he asked. The early church found that Christ was the most essential. Christ is faithful when things go wrong. At times when we are devastated Christ is faithful. Christ is the same in His fidelity. Truth will always be truth and Jesus Christ is truth. Pastor Carne said, Christ is the same in His finality. When all the agnostics have given all their doctrines the final one is Jesus Christ's. Be prepared to meet Jesus Christ at the end. Sunday, June 27 is anniversary at Auburn Missionary Church. Rev Colborne Twp. council held its regular meeting on June 1. By resolution, council decided to enact a by-law to change the zoning on Part Lot 12, Lake Road West Concession. Property owner Ken Brindley had applied for the zoning change to permit the establishment of a farmers' flea market. However, several objections had been raised by adjacent property owners and Huron County Planning & Development had recommended that council decline to pass the by-law until an agreement between the concerned parties had been reached. Mr. Brindley has the opportunity to appeal council's decision to the Ontario Municipal Board. Council authorized the payment of the bills and accounts in the total amount of $139,820.10 as supported by the treasurer's list of vouchers. Hamilton and Niagara the newly- weds returned to their new home at the third concession of East Wawanosh Twp. Forty-three years ago they moved to Hullett Town- ship where they have resided since. A farmer his entire life, Mr. Vin- cent also worked for a time with Lavis Contracting. Mrs. Vincent was a full-time homemaker, busy raising the cou- ples family of four — sons Clare, Doug and Jack and daughter Mary Lou. As well, she has been a mem- ber of the WI and Canadian Foresters. Special guests at Saturday's open house attended from Hamilton, Guelph, Wiarton and the surround- ing area. A family dinner at Londesboro United Church followed. Ted Losch of Kitchener will be the guest speaker with the Harmony 4 providing the special music. Congratulations to Annie and Norman Vincent, who celebrated their 50th anniversary with an Open House at the Community Hall on Saturday, June 5. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin recent- ly spent the weekend in Kitchener with family members. They attended the Wilfrid Laurier University graduation ceremonies when their grandson Steven Jardin graduated in Business Admini- stration. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jardin also hosted a family dinner at their cottage on Conestoga Lake, in honour of Ruth's and Tom's 55th wedding anniversary. An open house is planned for July 10 when all members of the family will be present. A letter was received from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs advising council that the May installment of the provincial unconditional grant had been reduced to 10 per cent from 25 per cent to ensure that no overpayment occurs. Council instructed municipal staff to make the necessary arrangements for the Cemetery Memorial Service to be held at the Colborne Twp. Cemetery on Sunday, August 1 at 2:00 p.m. The Committee of Adjustment approved the application of Robert and Judith Odbert for a minor variance to reduce the setback from the required 25 feet to 16 feet to permit the construction of an addition to their cottage on Lot 6, Broken Front Concession.
