The umpire in this game had a tough call to make as the Bone Clowns third baseman, Murray

Brussels. The Indians went on to win 13-9. The two teams were participating in the Optimist
Tournament .

An impressive fourth inning,
both defensively and offensively,
put the Brussels Squirts on top
when they hosted Belgrave I June
1.
Some defensive gliches in the
visitor's half of the first, saw two
runs score, while Belgrave pitching
held the home team at bay. Joshua
Gropp, who pitched an inning and a
half, struck out two and had one
base on balls.
With runners on base Terry
Nichol took his shot on the mound.
He held the visitors to three runs
with two strikeouts, while his team
narrowed the margin by one in the
bottom half of the inning.
Nathan Conley pitched the third,
allowing just one run.
A lead off single and a walk in
Despite a consistent effort, the
Brussels WOAA Midget Boys
dropped their first game against
Williamsford by one run on May
18.
Tom Warner's home run in the
fourth contributed to a consistent
offensive effort by Brussels, but a
hit parade for Williamsford mid-
way through overpowered Brussels
play.
Pitcher Bob Steiss pitched three
shut-out innings, before reliever
Shawn Conley came on in the
fourth, to be followed that same
inning by Rob Johnston. A total of
seven Williamsford runs scored
that inning, passing Brussels by
two.
Brussels added one in the fifth,
which was cancelled by the home
team and came up one short in the
sixth take the loss.
Defensively, Brad Beuermann
made a tremendous contribution
catching everything that came his
way.
On May 31, Brussels was pound-
ed by a visiting Walton team. Con-
ley struck out five while Johnston
fanned three. Walton's Chris
Stevenson held the home team at
bay with 11 strikeouts through six,
allowing only three runs. Then Paul
Dolmage ended it with two shutout
innings.
Final score was 13-3 for Walton.
Thursday, Brussels went south to
Walton where despite a valiant
the bottom of the inning resulted in
two more runs for Brussels.
Strong defensive play by the
home team in the fourth helped
their pitcher earn a shutout inning.
Terry Nichol caught a liner to cen-
tre field for the first out, while the
second came in a run down
between third and home. A come-
backer to Conley on the mound fin-
ished it.
Brussels' first run of the fourth
came in after a bases loaded walk.
Then with three players on, Trevor
Wilson pulled one down the third
base line to put the home team
ahead. Two more runs scored
before the final out, giving Brussels
a hard fought 9-6 victory.
On June 8, Brussels hosted
Goderich at 8 p.m. Tonight (June
pitching effort by Steiss, who
fanned 13 through seven and home
runs by Johnnie Miners and Jerry
VanKuelen they were defeated 7-4.
Walton pitcher Paul Dolmage,
also notched a home run in the
fourth.
Brussels Midgets, who are sport-
ing new uniforms this year through
the generosity of the Brussels
Lions, will host Cargill in Walton
at 9 p.m, June 14.
Norman,
OHL pick
Todd Norman, who played for
the Brussels Bulls during the 1991-
92 season was a third round choice
of the Guelph Storm in the OHL
draft held Saturday in London.
The Gowanstown native, who
played Jr. B in Stratford this past
winter, was the 37th player taken
overall despite being ranked 56th
by Central Scouting.
Norman signed with the Bulls
after leading the Wallace Twp. Pee
Wees to the All-Ontario
Championship. He scored 23 goals
and added 28 assists in 42 games
with Brussels while winning
Western Jr. C Rookie of the Year
Honours. This season Todd had
five goals and 23 assists in 44
games with the Cullitons.

The Blyth Mosquitos soccer team
have completed the first month of
soccer with a good record. One win
and two ties.
Blyth's first game, played in
Clinton on May 20, was a good
offensive game. Christina Black
scored the first of the season as
Michael Courtney, April Van
Amersfoort and Dianne Mason set
her up. Then Michael Ansley went
to work, scoring three times. Kelly
Boven set him up twice, one being
a corner kick, and Cappy Onn
assisted on this third goal. Michael
Courtney scored Blyth's fifth goal
unassisted.
After half time, Blyth again came
out strong with three more. Jeff
Cowan scored twice, set up by
Ansley, Boven and Van
Amersfoort.
Zeb Irving scored the final goal
from Black and Boven. The final
score was 8-0 for Blyth.
On May 27, Blyth travelled to
Lucknow which was a tough game.
Blyth went on the offense and got a
two goal lead. Courtney scored
first, assisted by Ansley and Boven.
The second was scored by Ansley,
assisted by Courtney, and Cowan.
As the second half got under
way, Lucknow showed more
strength and evened up the score.
This exciting game ended in a 2-2
tie.
Blyth hosted their first home
game on May 31 in Belgrave
against Goderich Lions. Blyth was
right in anticipating a tough game.
Goderich went ahead by two goals,
but Blyth didn't give up.
Jeremy Van Amersfoort scored
on a free kick going high over the
keeper's hands. They tied up the
game when Ansley scored on a

The Brussels Tigers swept a
home and home series over the
Seaforth Tigers improving their
record to four wins, one loss, one
tie in Huron County fastball action.
Monday night Brussels came
from behind to edge Seaforth 3-2.
Trailing 2-1 the Tigers tied the
score in the sixth inning, then
scored the winning run in heir last
at bat on consecutive triples by
Kevin Kellington and Murray Pipe.
Mike Watson pitched the win in
his first start of the season while
Kellington went three for three at
the plate including two triples.
Defence came up big for the
Tigers as Brian TenPas in
centerfield and first baseman Doug
Shaw each made game saving
catches during Seaforth's last at bat.
Sunday night in Brussels Mike
Watson's two home runs led the
Tigers to a 5-0 shutout of Seaforth.
Watson hit a solo homer= in the
second inning for a 1-0 lead, then
capped a four run third inning with
a two run shot.
Doug Conley pitched a three
hitter for the win while Verne
pass from Cowan and Boven.
Blyth then went ahead with a
goal by Cowan, coming from
Courtney and Boven.
Goderich managed to tie the
game with only a few minutes left
in the game. The final score being
3-3. The game was exciting for
both fans and players.

Bridge reached base on all three
attempts.
The Tigers travel to Blyth
Wednesday night for a 9 p.m. start
against Soundproof, while Sunday
night the Exeter Sooners are in
town for a 7:30 start.

Mosquitoes
lose by 1
A closely fought defensive game
with few scoring opportunities
resulted in a one point loss for the
Brussels Mosquitoes when they
came against Elmira at the Optimist
Park, Wallace on Wednesday, June
2.
Nicki LeBlanc of Elmira nudged
in the first and only goal of the
game past Brussels' goalie Philip
Graber, just before the halfway
mark.
Brussels narrowly missed tieing
things up with a shot late in the sec-
ond half. With help from his team-
mates goalie Matthew Snyder was
able to hold Elmira to their one-
point lead.
June 9, the Mosquitoes host Wal-
lace at the Brussels School soccer
field. Game time is 7 p.m.

BRUSSELS FALL FAIR
Poster Competition
This contest is open to all amateur artists.
PURPOSE OF THE CONTEST
To give local artists the opportunity to create an advertisement
for the Brussels Fall Fair.
RULES:
1. The poster shall not be larger than one sheet of bristol board.
2. Any medium may be used.
3. Must Include the date of this year's fair. (Sept. 14 & 15, 1993).
4. Must Include the name of the fair. (Brussels 132nd Fall Fair).
5. Must depict this year's theme, which Is FOCUS ON BEEF.
6. All entries will become the property of the Brussels
Agricultural Society.
7. Each entry must include the artist's name on the bottom right
hand corner, in an area no larger than 2 Inches x 3 inches.
8. All entries must be in the possession of the fair board no later
than August 1,1993.
9. All work must be done by the person whose name is on the
poster.
10. The first place entry will go to the competition at the annual
convention of agricultural societies in Toronto in Feb. of 1994.
Prizes 1st place - $20.00
2nd place - $15.00
3rd place - $10.00
