Seniors to visit Kettle Creek
The Blyth Swinging Seniors met
in the town hall for their regular pot
luck dinner on May 26 at 12 p.m.
President Isabelle Craig opened
the meeting with 0 Canada, which
was followed by a sing-a-long led
by Vera Badley and Lloyd Walden.
Graeme McDowell accompanied at
the piano.
There were two May birthdays,
Clara Rinn and Hary McDowell
and one anniversary, a golden one
for Ferne and Hary McDowell.
John Hesselwood told a couple of
goods jokes and then read a
humorous poem to the McDowells.
The minutes were read by the
secretary and adapted as read.
Several other reports were read and
dealt with at that time.
The upcoming bus trip to Kettle
Rev. Allan Groen of Edmonton
Christian Reformed Church served
as guest pastor at the Blyth CRC on
Sunday, June 6.
As an introduction to the
morning worship service the
summary of the gospel was read,
followed by the 10 Command-
ments.
Rev. Groen based the sermon on
Genesis 37 verses 12-26 with
Matthew 5, verse 4 as the focal
text. This verse, a part of the
beautitudes, states: "Blessed are
those who mourn, for they will be
comforted."
The pastor outlined the grief that
the patriarch Jacob had for the loss
of his son Joseph whom he
believed to be dead.
Jacob's favourite son had been
placed on a pedestal by his father.
Joseph, as a result, was somewhat
proud and boastful in character.

Creek was mentioned. The bus will

the senior games in Goderich must

The seniors are invited to
Huronlea, Brussels on June 15 at
1:30 p.m. to help the residents
celebrate their June birthday.
The seniors' picnic will be held
on July 28 at 12 p.m. at St.
Christopher's Beach, Goderich.
Mrs. Craig turned the meeting
over to Mary Walden, who set up
euchre, lost heir and crokinole.
The results were: lost heir — high
lady, Ella Richmond; high man,
Harve McDowell; low lady, Effie
McCall and low man, Lloyd
Walden; euchre — high lady, Erma
The brothers of Joseph deserted
him and left him in a well to die.
The brothers brought the infamous
coloured coat to Jacob, torn apart.
Jacob believed his son to be dead,
and refused to be comforted in his
devastating grief.
Rev. Groen stated that sorrow is
not wrong, nor is it to be hurried or
put on a time table. The beautiful
things in life that bring us great joy
also cause us sorrow, he said. Grief
is part of the cycle of life.
Rev. Groen concluded by saying,
"God invites you to trust in him for
comfort, even when comfort seems
far away." There are many reasons
to grieve, and it can last a long
time. Sharing sorrows with God
through prayer will bring comfort
and rest, he said.
Following the morning service,
Sunday School was held along with
Friendship Series.
The evening service was at 7:30
p.m. with Rev. Groen officiating.
