Founders Trophy
4-H members
build tent
village

Women's Institute
Saturday, May 22 at noon the
Cranbrook and Lucknow 4H club
which included 28 members and
two leaders joined forces at the
Wawanosh Park Campground.
They built a 14 tent village. After
completing the campsite volunteer
chefs Tony McQuail and Jolene
Weber, served a hot lunch then
when the cleanup was finished the
first club, which was "Take a Walk
on the Wild Side" started.
Junior leaders, Dave and Chris
Armstrong, members of the 1st
Brussels Scout troop gave a
compass and map reading demon-
stration. Mr. Ross Hemingway, the
assistant leader gave a first aid
demonstration on splinting with
proper first aid equipment or using
whatever's handy, like tree
branches and shoe laces.
After breaking for supper, there
was free time. Around the camp
fire everyone enjoyed hot chocolate
and roasted marshmallows. Some
club members told spooky stories.
Then it was lights out.
Sunday morning, after being
awakened by blaring music and
animal yells from Dave and Chris
breakfast was served.
After breakfast was served the
second club, "Protecting Planet
Earth", began.
At 1 p.m. Jeff Mullen and Esther
Buck took everyone on a hike of
the park and a reforestation area
which belong to the Maitland
Conservation Authority. During the
hike members heard how to tell the
age of a pine tree without cutting it

The Wingham Canadette
Majorette Corps held their annual
banquet on May 26 at the F.E.
Madill Secondary School.
Following dinner, instructor
Ellen Gailing presented the
following awards: Most improved
- Tamara Koehler, Belgrave; Lori
Bridge, Wroxeter; Cheryl
Armstrong, Brussels; Lindsay
Michie, Belgrave and Stefanie
Hills, Wingham.
Attendance awards were
presented to 23 of the 30 canadettes
who missed two or less practices or
performances.
The evening ended with the
presentation of the two major
awards. Janice Gaunt presented the
Joyce Gaunt Memorial Trophy to
Am" Thomas. This award is
presented to the Canadette who is
most helpful to the corp and her
fellow twirlers. It is voted on by the
girls.
The Founders Trophy donated by
former instructor Patti Robertson
was presented to Candice Irwin by
last year's recipient Erin Mitchell.
This trophy is presented to the
Canadette who exhibits the
qualities of commitment,
determination, dedication and
integrity.
This weekend the corps is
travelling to Keady to participate in
a competition sponsored by the
Grey-Bruce Twirlers.
