Brad Knight Clerk-Treasurer Township of Grey R.R. #3 Brussels, Ontario NOG 1H0 Snowmobilers in Ontario are the Easter Seal Society's top fund- raisers, bringing in more than half a million dollars for children with physical disabilities. Fifty-one separate Snowarama events held around the province raised $495,000 in 1993. The annual Ticket to Ride draw, held by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) on May 15, raised an additional $59,000. Usually hosted by local snowmobile and service clubs, Snowarama is the Society's oldest and largest fundraising event. Since 1975, thousands of snowmobile riders have braved the elements to ride various 100- kilometre courses around the province. Each rider collects pledges or donations for kilometres completed. A portion of the funds raised through Snowarama is distributed by service clubs to families within the local communi- ties who need the assistance of the Easter Seal Society. The rest is directed to province-wide camping, nursing, and community service programs. In the 18-year-history of Snowarama, $10.5 million has been raised for children with physical disabilities. Now in its third year, the Ticket to Ride lottery was a huge success. Almost 30,000 tickets were sold for the draw in which four snow- mobiles were given away. The snowmobiles were donated by Bombardier Inc., Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd., Polaris Industries Ltd., and Eastern Marketing Ltd. The lucky winners were Dereck Reed of Brantford, Erma Froats of Iroquois, Brian Buchanan of North Augusta, and Allan R. Smith of Richmond Hill. "We appreciate the tremendous work being done by the OFSC and its member clubs on behalf of children with physical disabilities. With their financial support, the Easter Seal Society is able to provide the kinds of services that help these children flourish," says Ed Wright, Director of Service Club Relations. The Tigers travelled to Walton Monday night to play the C4th Tigers. Their next home game is Sunday at 7:30 p.m. also against the C4th Tigers. Physical Education, DAILY A Right, Not A Frill!
