UCW holds planting contest
By Nickolas Elligsen and
Brian Dolmage
We have been studying turtles
this week. "I did a graph with my
friends," said Nick. We have seen
two films about turtles. Mike,
Darryl, Erich and Geoffrey brought
their turtles in to look at. The whole
class has been doing biographies.
We have been studying Maurice
Richard and are doing an interview
about him.

Sarah McDonald
Mrs. Bennett's grade one/two
class was learning about technol-
ogy and design.
We used jinx wood, a glue gun,
paint, saws, gussets, mitre boxes,
cardboard, milk cartons,
construction paper, tape, straws,
lids, paper punches, scissors, safety
goggles, plastic bottles, pencils and
rulers.
We designed houses, tables,
chairs, hay wagons, tractors, a reel
lawn mower, barns and two-storey
buildings.
We made a p;an of our design
first. Then we made a list and got
our materials ready. We made our
real design. We each gave a report
to our class when our design was
finished.

Brenda Linton and her son Jeff
greeted worshippers at Duff's
United Church on Sunday, May 23.
Rev. Peter Tucker from Belgrave
exchanged pulpits with Rev. Banks
who was guest speaker for Calvin-
Brick's United Church anniversary
service.
People were informed of the
death of Archie Willis, father of
Dianne McCallum and Donna
McClure. Deepest sympathies from
the community are extended to
them and their family.
The choir introduced a new song
to the congregation from the green
song book called "We Have This
Ministry". •
Rev. Tucker gave a message to
all of God's children about how we
are never alone. God is always with
us. His sermon title was "Bitter-
Sweet Goodbyes". He talked about
how today everything is instant in
communications — push button
telephones, T.V., newspapers. Lack
of communication can cause break
downs in relationship, he said. We
have to keep working at our
communications even with God,
through prayer.
A reminder of the church service
time next Sunday. It will be a
special service starting at 9:30, with
two babies being baptized, eight
young people being confirmed and
communion served.
On June 6, the Blyth Puppeteers
will be in charge of the service.
