PAGE 17. Blyth students go camping GRADE THREE Grade threes are learning about the five senses. They are finding out how ears, eyes, noses and mouths work. In Math, they are extending multiplication skills and are studying the facts of six, seven, eight and nine. They will soon be learning how to multiply two-digit numbers. Now that spring-like weather has finally arrived, they have started practising for Track and Field Day. GRADE THREE/FOUR The grade three-four class has started an Orange Unit. They had great fun learning about how oranges grow. A fun activity was looking at both the outside and inside of the oranges. They had to guess how many sections the oranges had. Most had 11. The best part of all was being able to eat the oranges. Paintings this week have all been done by using the colour orange with tints and shades of orange. They are now working on interview questions to ask an orange. During gym classes, they are very busy preparing for Track and Field Day. Everyone enjoys the high jump. GRADE SIX/SEVEN On May 7, the grade six/seven classroom had a special visitor, Mrs. Montgomery. She helped the class with their History assign- ments which are based on "Family History." Mrs. Montgomery is a _member of the Huron County Branch of Ontario Genealogical Society. She has been researching since 1985. She researched her own families and other families, who once lived in Huron County. The grade six/seven class raised $1,316.95 which is going towards A.I.D.S. research and the people of Davis Inlet. This money was raised by the Rock-a-thon held on April 16 and 17 at the school. We would like to thank all the people who sponsored us. On April 29, the grade six/seven class attended a Blue Jays game at the Skydome. Special thanks goes to Mrs. Joyce Thompson who made a big banner to make the trip a little more exciting. The funds to cover the trip came out of the grade six/seven donut sales. The game was a lot of fun. By Skye Lantinga Blyth's grade seven class went to Camp Sylvan on May 10-11. Camp Sylvan is located outside of Parkhill. Leaving the school at 9 a.m., it took about an hour and a half to get there. Upon arriving luggage was taken to the chuck wagons (that's what we slept in) and everyone was introduced to the leaders: Pattie, Steve and Mary, who was a junior leader. All of the activities had a nature theme such as ecosystems, habitat, the environment and respecting nature. Frank White talked to students about Indian artifacts. He is an archeologist and he brought some of his artifacts to show us. Jay Campbell, from T.V. London News, did some activities to teach us about recording weather and the things which affect temperature. It was lights out at 11:30 and wake up time at 7:30. We were given time the next morning to pack our things and then we split up into two groups and went on a hike. We then worked on our log books for a while. We got on the bus at 2:00 p.m. and got back to the school at 3:30. Everyone had fun.
