Edith Vincent introduced the special speaker for the evening Sergeant Greg King of the Wingham Detachment of the O.P.P. He spoke on safety precautions for the homes, how to deal with problems that arise while driving alone and with mail and telephone schemes. During the discussion which followed his presentation, Sergeant King answered the additional concerns which were brought up Speakers encourage WI members at meeting The message is clear: "Stand up, speak out and be proud to be a Women's Institute member." This is the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario's theme for 1993-94. CKNX Farm Newscaster Kevin Stewart in his afternoon talk to the Huron East District Women's Institute members emphasized this message as well, urging the membership to use the media to get their message across to the public. By using the media to its fullest extent he said, "Together We Achieve" would be no problem. Since society has become very fond of using acronyms or letters when speaking, outsiders often don't know or don't understand what is being promoted. Spell it out and the message will be understood. False perceptions will cloud the truth, therefore fully explain Women's Institute when promoting or speaking of the organization. Kevin was thanked for his time and assured his message would be put to use. Marjory Humphries, board director for Subdivision H gave her report from the Spring Board meeting. The "Pass It On" Education group has been dismissed and in Huron County the Huron-Perth Education Committee will be the only ones offering any adult courses. This fall in Clinton and Mitchell, courses on decorating sweatshirts and Christmas candy and cookies are being offered. Marjory also told the members that Nov. 11 is Women's Day at the Royal Winter Fair, and the theme will be food. She also made note of the fact that 1994 is the "Year of the Family." Anna Jackson the secretary for Federation Women's Institutes of Ontario needs a volunteer helper in the office at Guelph. Heather Hoover from Health Huron gave a short talk about the upcoming miniature health fairs being held each Wednesday in June in the parks, the closest one being June 9 in Wingham from 11 - 2 at Cruickshank Park. There is going to be a banner competition for Huron East District members. The banner is to represent Huron East and is for the 100th Anniversary of Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario in 1997. The banner is to be drawn on one half sheet of bristol board and to be ready for the next District Annual where they will be judged by people's choice. A motion to continue holding a church service in April for the Associated Country Women of the World was passed with a morning service being favoured.
