tion at the Maitland Golf Course

Worshippers at Bluevale United
Church on Sunday morning
honoured the memory of a faithful
church member, Jack Wickstead
who passed away in December.
Articles of churchware, a
candlelighter/snuffer and commun-
ion chalice and paten were
dedicated to Mr. Wickstead's
memory to be used in the church.
Jean Mathers and Rev. Banks
performed the dedication service.
Rev. Banks is working with the
children, teaching them the books
of the Old Testament. The children
are doing very well in pronouncing
the difficult names. The children's
hymn was "Just Like Salt".
Organists Etoile and Mary Lou
Johnston accompanied the choir as
they sang an old favourite "Leaning
on the Everlasting Arm". Ed
Stewart and Carl Johnston were
ushers.
Scripture passages were taken
from Acts 17, I Peter 3 and John
14. The Apostles Creed was
repeated in unison. Julie Elston was
reader.
In his message, Rev. Banks asked
"How Religious Are We?" Do we

Greeters on Sunday, May 16 at
Blyth Christian Reformed Church
were Mery and Gay Datema.
Ushers were Henry Bos and Casey
Boven.
Rev. Dirk Miedema from the
Clinton CRC led the worship
service. The scripture reading was
taken from Luke 24: 13-35. These
verses show the men walking on
the road to Emmaus. They were
heavy-hearted over Jesus'
crucifixion. As they walked Jesus
joined them to ask what they were
talking about. The men did not
recognize Jesus and told him all
that had happened with Jesu' in
Jerusalem. Jesus, at this point, then
explained to them why he had to
suffer to enter into his glory. Jesus
also explained the scriptures
beginning with Moses and all the
Prophets.
As they came to the village the
men asked Jesus to stay with them
to eat. At the table Jesus gave
thanks, and broke bread to give to
them. At this point the men's eyes
were opened and they recognized
Jesus, who then disappeared from
their sight.

tion in singing "Softly and

week or one day a month? We must
direct our minds to the fact that
God gave us the weeks and the
years, he said. He is all around us
every minute, every second of
every day no matter where we are
or what we are doing. God is good
to us; shouldn't we give him more
than a few minutes of our time? he
asked. He has supplied us with
such beauty and bounty, yet we
never seem to have time to think
about Him, to pray to Him, or to
praise Him as we should. God asks
so little of us and yet He gives us
so much.

Rev. Miedema referred to the
Bible as a script for our lives. If we
read the Bible we fmd a basic set of
principals. The men on the road did
not understand the importance of
Jesus suffering and death because
they did not understand the
scriptures. The men had missed the
importance of the crucifixion that
Jesus died for our sins so that we
may have eternal life through Jesus.
They missed God's assurance of
love, and that God can make good
come from evil.
Their eyes were not opened to
see Jesus until after Jesus explained
to them all of the scripture
concerning him and then blessed
and broke bread.
Rev. Miedema also talked about
the inner consistency of the Bible.
Everything spoken by the prophets
was fulfilled through Jesus. If we
read the Bible faithfully we can see
that God knows us better than we
know ourselves, he said.

Pardon. Then everyone joined in
the hymn "Jesus Shall Reign." The
Responsive Reading was Psalm 90
'0 Lord, you have been our
refuge,' after which the hymn,
"Spirit of God, Descend," was
sung.
For the conversation with
children, Rev. Ramirez brought a
kite that he and John made. In order
for the kite to fly, it must balance.
This represents faith, love and
action. Also, for a kite to fly wind
is needed. God gives us the power.
The children went to class with

presence of Jesus in a spirit." Forty
days after Jesus had risen, he
assured the disciples he would be
with them even though he was not
there physically but spiritually. His
spirit would be with them always.
Rev. Ramirez said, the Holy
spirit is Jesus' extension. The Holy
Spirit in disciples will teach them
of this love.
When someone has passed away
then we remember that person and
ask 'How would she do it?' or
'What would he say?' Sometimes
the answer isn't quite what we
expect. Even when we are a long
distance from a loved one we will
ask ourselves. 'How would that
person do this task?'
Neither can we see or hear Jesus
yet Christians know Jesus is alive.
Only those who truly believe can
have the reality of the Holy Spirit.
When you look around at the
beauty God has created, the naked
eye sees flowers, trees, sky. Once
you look closer at a red tulip its
true beauty comes forth.
It is amazing what God's touch
has done. With God's spirit in your
heart you can truly believe in the
faith of the Holy Spirit. Only then
can you know how to act and what
to do in certain situations.
When the Holy Spirit is given to
us we can love Jesus Christ and He
will love us. We must love Christ
and obey his commandments, Rev.
Ramirez said. The closing hymn,
"Breathe on Me Breath of God"
was sung.

Approach and Confession. The
junior choir sang an anthem under
the direction of Shelley Worsell
and Karen Webster. Hymn "Spirit
Divine, Attend Our Prayers" was
sung.
Rev. Ross told children's story
and the Lord's Prayer was repeated
