The Morris Twp. resident was
born March 13, 1909 to Silas John-
ston and Rebecca Forest who are
deceased.
He married Ruth Evelyn Brown
of Grey Twp. on June 12, 1937
who survives him.
Also surviving him is his daugh-
ter, Marilyn MacDonald of
Goderich and a brother, Jim John-
ston of Welland. He was prede-
ceased by a brother, Harvey C.
Johnston of Clinton.
Mr. Johnston was educated in
Grey Twp. In his early years, he
was a farmer and later, became a
car salesman. He was a member of
Knox United Church in Belgrave
and the Oddfellow society and was
actively involved in the communi-
ty.
Mr. Johnston's funeral was held
May 14 at the McBurney Funeral
Home with Reverend Peter Tucker
officiating. Pallbearers were Jim
Armstrong, Elston Speiran, Edward
Watson, Ralph Pearson, Alvin
McDonald and Karl Whitfield.

VERA TURNER
Vera Turner of Bayfield died
May 15, 1993 at Alexandra Marine
and General Hospital. She was 66.
Born in Craik, Saskatchewan, on
August 26, 1927, she was the
daughter of the late Frederick
Arkell and Charlotte (Scotchmer)
Arkell.
She was a member of Trinity
Anglican Church in Bayfield.
Along with her husband, Robert,
Mrs. Turner is survived by her chil-
dren Gayle and her husband Brian
King of Blyth and Philip Turner
and his wife Chris of Exeter.
Also surviving her are her broth-
ers, Thomas Arkell and his wife
Marion of Hemstead, Texas, Ken-
neth Arkell and his wife Olivia of
Vernon, British Columbia and a
sister, Rosemarie Sager and her
husband Donald of Goderich.
She is also survived by her
grandchildren Matthew and Timo-
thy King and Robert (Rob) Turner
and by many nieces and nephews.
By family request, there will be
no funeral home visitation and cre-
mation has taken place. A memori-
al service has been set for Saturday,
May 22 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Angli-
can Church in Bayfield. Reverend
Aubrey Bell will officiate.
Burial of ashes is in Bayfield
Cemetery.
ROBERT JOHNSTON
Robert Forest Johnston died May
11, 1993 following a short illness at
Wingham and District Hospital. He
was 84.
Flower bearers were his grandsons,
Douglas Thompson of Toronto and
Dan Thompson of Vancouver, B.C.
Interment was at Brussels Ceme-
tery.
HENRY JENNINGS
Reverend Henry Leonard Jen-
nings of Harriston, formerly of
Wroxeter, died May 15, 1993 at
Palmerston and District Hospital.
He was the husband of Ivy Mae
Jennings of Harriston.
Reverend Jennings is survived by
siblings Eric Jennings of Ajax, Jack
and Loretta Jennings of Chatham,
Connie Huckens of Komoko and
Rose Hill of London.
Also, he was an uncle to Frances
Moore of Wroxeter and Be'erly
Noble of Wingham.
Resting was at Bett's Visitation
Centre in Gorrie. The funeral ser-
vice was on May 17 from St.
Stephens Anglican Church in Gor-
rie. Interment at Gorrie Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joseph Moore,
Doug Noble, Gerald Moore, Jack
Farrish and Vern Clarke.

Hullett Central Public School student Michael Ottens faces off against Jillian Underwood of
Wingham Public School during the Chess-a-mania tournament in Hullett on May 12. Forty-two
competitors from Grade 3-8 at four schools took part in the fourth annual event.
