A total of 25 birds were trapped in several locations in central Ontario and transferred to a pair of sites in the northern part of the County. At least six broods were produced in the spring of 1992, despite the cold wet nesting conditions. As a result, the fall population size was estimated at over 60 birds, and their range now encompasses parts of six townships. During the winter of 1993, an additional eight birds were relocated from thriving populations on the Niagara Peninsula and in Simcoe County. The labour for this effort was provided by interested volunteers and the Ministry of Natural Resources. All of the support costs for the operation were generously provided by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, from their Wild Turkey Trust Fund. With reasonable nesting conditions this spring, the Wingham population could easily expand to 150 birds by 1994 and 400 birds by 1995. If funds are Bluevale, averaging 1190 lbs. sold for $110.90.
