Spring shopping
It was perfect weather to inspire people to shop for flowers
so Betty Nethery and Lillian Riehi took advantage of the
sunshine and warm temperatures to check out the display
at the Blyth United Church Garage Sale, Friday night. Held
for the first time at the church, organizers deemed the
event a huge success.
Motherhood, topic

The greeters at the Christian

to worship and the congregation
sang the opening hymn "This Is
The Day".
After the Prayer of Illumination
and scripture reading of Psalm 96,
Rev. Heersink preached on
Zachariah 4: 10 "The Day of the
Small Things". He said that in
motherhood some women stay at
home with their children, but in
today's society women are starting
to question their worth. They are
encouraged to further their
education or get involved outside
the home. This isn't wrong but the
stay-at-home mothers deserve more
respect than they receive; they also
need to respect themselves more.
As Zachariah 4: 10 says, "Do not
despise the day of the small things
but rejoice (be happy)". The work
in the home is used by the Lord to
build His church; it is a part of His
masterplan.
The congregation responded with
joyful singing of Hymn No. 453
"Let See Things Now Living."
Greeters at the Blyth United
Church, May 9 were Terry and
Barb Richmond. Ushers were
Anthony and Rachel deBoer, Laura
Meier and Devin Shannon. Melissa
Badley assisted with the offering.
Selected verses from Psalm 147,
Praise the Lord for He is good,
was read, followed by the scripture
reading by Ross Clark and Nathan
Shannon. The scripture was Ruth 1:
1-18.
Baptism was performed on four
children. They were Jenna Ann,
daughter of Kevin and Karen
Coultes; Stephen Alexander and
Krysten Suzanne, children of
Stephen and Suzanne Shannon and
Collin Allan Lewis son, of Kurt
and Lisa Whitfield. The baptismal
hymn was "Children of the
Heavenly King".
Rev. Ramirez asked the children
to remain with their parents and
spoke on how wonderful a mother
is. He asked the children who gave
their mother something today, such
as a hug, a gift, a card or breakfast.
Melanie Bearss read the Sunday
School announcements and
welcomed everyone to the family
service. Then she wished everyone
a happy Mother's Day on behalf of
the Sunday School.
Rev. Ramirez expressed
sympathy to Donna Walsh and her
children and to Jim and Elsie
Walsh and family on the sudden
death of their loved one Murray.
Flowers were placed in his
memory.
This year's Garage Sale was a
success with a net profit greater
than last year.
The choir sang, "A Christian
Home."
The sermon was titled, "Love
within the Family". Rev. Ramirez
used text taken from Ruth, one of
the shortest scriptures in the Old
Testament. The story showed the
love within the family. Some
families are so large that sometimes
a family could fill a whole church.

He gave several definitions of
family:
Family — those people who care for
and love one another and live
together.
Family — those who love God and
care for God and live with God.
Family — belong together, pray
together and stay together through
all times - good and bad. To be
loyal to one another.
Rev. Ramirez asked that we try
and not be prejudiced to one
another, that we try and work out
our differences. Work out different
beliefs and come together with a
Mother's love and then we can live
together for eternity, he said. He
asked in prayer that we try to be
trusting of others.
The last hymn was "Happy is the
Home When God is There."
