Blyth Festival General Manager Ray Salverda demonstrates how to focus a theatrical light as
part of an enriched program on theatre for Huron county elementary school students held at
the Festival last week. As well as lighting, students learned about writing and other aspects of
theatre.

Letter to the editor

Clinton Public Hospital generat-
ed a $67,870 surplus in February
raising the total surplus to
$446,727.
The figure was released at the
hospital's regular board meeting
GRADE TWO
By Matthew Cowan and
Mrs. Hessels
On April 20, grade two sang for
the Belgrave seniors. They sang
The Wabash Cannonball, The Old
Gray Mare, Scarborough Fair, A,
You're Adorable, and The Bear.
On April 23, it was Kyle
Campbell's birthday, and the class
is going on a class trip.
Students just finished a unit
about eggs. They did lots of egg
activities. Mrs. Gross helped make
nests out of Rice Krispies and they
put candy eggs in them. They did
egg experiments and learned the
parts of an egg.
Do you know where the chalaza
is?
GRADE FOUR/FIVE
The class congratulates Colleen
Van Camp and Justin Black for
their performances for the Belgrave
seniors.
Students have been learning
songs for their production of
Joseph and his Amazing
Technicolour Dreamcoat.
Everyone has been hard at work
researching for their Owl projects.
Many interesting facts about owls
have been discovered.
The class has started to learn an
early pioneer craft — stitchery.
In gym, students have started to
practice for Track and Field.
Everyone wants to be in good
shape when the playground finally
dries up.
LIBRARY
The Great Owl Book Fair is
providing students and teachers
with the opportunity to purchase a
good variety of reading material
this week. Students were pleased to
have so many parents visit the
Book Fair. A special "Thank You"
goes out to super parent volunteers,
Mrs. McCallum, Mrs. Gamiss, and
Mrs. Pfeiffer, who assisted with
this event.
Grade five/six has been using the
computer lab in the library to
publish their books. Some students
have been using the C-D ROM to
research information about
different European countries. There
has certainly been lots of, activity in
the library this week.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Everyone is so thrilled that the
primary washrooms are finally
ready to use — ahead of schedule.
The teachers won't lose their
students for such a long time, the
primary students won't have such a
long way to walk and the senior
students won't invade their
washrooms.
Kyle Procter and Leanne Mullin
from Kindergarten cut the ribbons
to officially open each washroom.
Thank you, Ms Thorpe-Hearn for
the balloons.
Congratulations to Kevin
Pattison for winning the Farm and
Safety poster contest. His winning
poster is in the Focus newspaper.

modation. They learned Clinton's
rates are somewhat higher than
other hospitals in the local area and
felt an increase wasn't warranted
for 1993. A motion was passed that
these rates remain at their 1992/93
levels.
The committee also made note of
the extensive and ongoing efforts
provided by Don Symons in sup-
port of the hospital's fundraising
activities. Over the last two years,
the hospital has been successful in
generating donations through the
Christmas Letter, raffles and other
similar events.
The committee said Mr. Symons
spends considerable time in the
hospital overseeing the fundraising
efforts and corresponding with
donors. It was decided to give Mr.
Symons a honorarium of $1,000 in
recognition of his ongoing efforts
in fundraising.

So why am I writing this letter?
Hope!
I have spoken in public about
organ donation and sometimes
don't feel as if I'm getting through
to people. At these times I have
wanted to stand up and yell, "Don't
you get it? Out of death has come
life! We are not without hope!"
It. is the hope that comes from
watching a family, almost
destroyed by disease, continue to
thrive and grow.
The hope that is felt when a
mother and daughter share the life-
saving miracle of an organ
transplant ...
The hope that is born with the
birth of a child who would never
have existed if not for the selfless
sharing of a donor family ...
The hope that continues to grow
with the example of a courageous
person who died waiting for her
chance at new life ...
We must keep listening and
never grow bored with the stories
of transplant recipients.
