A ship was making a cruise
through the Caribbean. There were
800 passengers on board and they
were having a wonderful time. The
sun was shining, the air was warm,
the sea was calm the cabins were
comfortable. There were all kinds
of delicious food to eat.
Entertainment was provided in he
lounges every night. It was a
perfect cruise.
There was only one thing wrong
with it. This ship never put in at
any port. It just kept sailing round
and round the Caribbean. It was an
aimless voyage going nowhere.
Eventually, the passengers learned
that when all the food ran out and
the ship's fuel tanks were empty,
the vessel would be sunk and all
Greeters for the Sunday, April 18
morning worship service at Blyth
Christian Reformed Church were
Ralph and Margaret Buffinga.
After the call to worship, God's
greeting was delivered by Rev.
Heersink.
The scripture chosen was gleaned
from Job 1 verses 1-5. The message
was, "Job and His Children". Rev.
Heersink outlined Job's character,
saying he represented the
proverbial name of patience! He
was also a very wealthy man, who
in today's world would have been a
corporate giant, a business capita-
list. Job had another characteristic,
as a "family man" and while he ran
a very large enterprise his family's
needs were never neglected said
A prelude of organ music played

greeted the worshippers at Bluevale
United Church Sunday morning.
The ushers were Murray
MacFarlane and Milton Boyd.
The children are continuing to
learn the Books of the Old
Testament under Rev. Banks
leadership. Sunday they learned the
names of the 12 disciples. The
children's hymn was "Yes, Jesus
Calls Me."
The Youth at Brussels Mennonite
Fellowship participated recently in
a volleyball tournament with the
youth of four other churches in the
area. They have planned a bowling
outing for the coming weekend.
Pastor Tom Warner preached on
The Wingham Voice for Life
Chapter met for its monthly
meeting at the home of Bert and
Brenda Sjaarda on April 5. Rev.
Vaudry opened with a scripture
reading from Luke 23 followed
with prayer. Minutes from the last
meeting were read and accepted.
Discussion about educational
material distributed to the local
high schools was very positive.
Many of the libraries have
requested that additional updated
pamphlets also be distributed.
Pamphlets were organized and will
be dropped off.
Plans for the annual 'Voice For
Life' banquet were finalized. The
banquet will be held on
the passengers drowned.
How long would the passengers
be satisfied with this kind of a
cruise? We like to have experiences
that bring us pleasure; but parties,
food and entertainment will not
satisfy us forever. Life becomes
meaningless and unsatisfying if that
is all that is offered to us. We need
to have a purpose to our life. We
need to find work that is
meaningful, things that we feel are
useful to do.
It is a strange but true fact that if
we live our lives giving helpful
service to other people, our lives
take on new meaning. We feel that
we are doing something useful,
something that is helping to make a
better world. God sent his Son,
Jesus, into the world to show us
how to live. In the life of this
young man, we see how life can
and should be lived.
Rev. Heersink. Job was a
remarkably religious man as well
and he tried to live his life in God's
service. He accepted his
responsibility of parenthood and
aimed to raise his children with
Christian ethics.
Rev. Heersink said, "Job's
experience is relevant to us today,
in that it applies to us as parents.
We need to gently teach and correct
our children when they have done
wrong," he said. We can guide
them and discuss with them what it
means to possess Christian
integrity, values and morals. Our
aim as Christian parents is to guide
our children into an awareness and
desire to walk with God and to
have a close relationship with him.
Rev. Banks followed up his
Easter message with scripture
passage from I Peter I: 3-9 and
John 20: 19-31. He spoke of
Thomas who wouldn't believe that
Christ had risen. Jesus assured him
to believe. You must believe
because you have seen him. But
blessed are those who haven't seen
me and believe anyway, Jesus told
him.
The Sacrament of Holy Com-
munion was observed with servers,
"The Descended Christ" at the
regular service on Sunday. He
made thought-provoking points on
the theme of resurrection, and the
real significance of God's gift to
man.
Several meetings were held
throughout the week. Monday
Wednesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. at
the Presbyterian Church in
Wingham. Tickets are available
from any board member or call

Jesus didn't try to act like a king
and exert his authority over other
people. He simply tried to help
people and show them his love.
Although he was of equal status to
God, he did not see equality as
something to be grasped. He took
up the work of a servant and gave
his life in the service of others.
Because he did this, God highly
exalted him. After his crucifixion,
God restored him to new life and
placed him at his right hand in
heaven. Easter celebrates the
restoration to new life of the
founder of the Christian church,
Jesus. As we rejoice in his
resurrection, can we accept the life
of sacrifice and service to others
that he displayed?
This was how Jesus earned his
high reward. We can achieve it,
too, if we imitate him.
When we do wrong this
relationship with God gets
temporarily broken until we seek
sincere forgiveness.
The concluding question was
"When we examine our personal
lifestyle do we see Jesus Christ
reflected there?"
The hymn of response to the
message was No. 160, "Lord God
of Hosts in Mercy." The
congregation joined in fellowship
and refreshment after the service.
In the evening the second service
of worship was held at 7:30 p.m.
