The capacity crowd of 280 (tickets were sold-out) at Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre bought hundreds of raffle tickets which, along with the silent auction and live auction helped the MVCA raise approximately $11,000 in support of the Wawanosh Nature Centre. Cadet officers receive awards NOTICE TO DOG OWNERS IN THE VILLAGE OF BRUSSELS As of January 1, 1988, all dogs must be licenced according to By-Law 17-1987 being a by-law to licence dogs and prohibit the running at large of dogs. The fee schedule to be paid shall be: a) if the dog Is a male or spayed female, a fee of $8.00 b) if the dog Is a female, a fee of $10.00 c) for a second male or spayed female a fee of $10.00 d) for a second female a fee of $15.00 All dogs In the Village of Brussels must be properly licenced by May 31, 1993. Failure to licence your dog will result In a $25.00 fine. Fines will be levied starting June 1, 1993. Special guests visit Rebekahs By Sandra Josling On Tuesday, April 6 a ceremony was held at the Brussels Legion to congratulate three officers of the Brussels Cadet Corp #2967. Captain John Grobbo received his CD award for his 12 years of continuous service. Retired Officer Cadet Linda Bird was presented with a certificate of service for her 10 years of service. Cadet Warrant Officer Brad Ribey was presented with a Gold Star. This represents the highest award to be achieved by The regular meeting of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge, Brussels took place on April 13 with Noble Grand Gertie Kellington presiding. Joan Bernard, District Deputy President of Huron District No. 23 paid her official spring visit at this meeting. Joan was presented with a corsage and gift from the Lodge members in appreciation of the work and time spent as District Brussels Lawrence and Mildred Jacklin were happy to welcome their whole family with a turkey supper Apr. 18. There were 21 present including seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Congratulations to Sharie for completing her year at New Liskeard Agricultural College, David for his year at Fanshawe College, Janice on completing Grade VIII and Bobbie Jo on her first six months at Fanshawe. It was Scout, Cub leade On March 26-28, Scouter Laura Groves and club leader George Kroll attended Part I of their Wood badge course held at Orton near Orangeville. They returned with skills and ideas to share with the scouts and cubs. Cubs held a well-attended 'Buddy Night' at the end of March where friends got a chance to enjoy cubbing games and activities. On April 19, they held a mock trial On this Friday, April 23 the grade eights are hosting a dance from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 for grades six to eight only.Admission is $1 .and there will be pop, chips, and chocolate bars available at 75 cents each. The first and second place winners in the school science fair went to Goderich to the Knights of Columbus Hall last Tuesday to set up for the County Science Fair which took place the next day. The winners included Patti Harrison, Curtis Mutter, Adam Carr, Steve Machan, Lisa Coyne and Kara Pepper. They all did a super job, and so did the school participants. There has been some talk around the school that maybe sometime this spring we might work on the new exercise track (new playground). It's that time of year again; yes, the Spring Concert time. I just had to find out what's going on, so I asked Mrs. Perrie who is in charge of this year's concert. She said this year's concert is based on the musical "Music Moves Me" by Ruth Axtman. It involves choirs, bands, dancers and an assortment of animals. She also said that many of the tunes will be familiar to the audience such as "Swinging on a Star" and "Rock Around the Clock". The grades participating are grade four/five, Mrs. Cousin's class, grade five/six, Mr. Riley's class, grade seven/eight, Mr. Wanless' class. Congratulations to Mike Cooper and Krissy Dilworth the winners in the poster contest sponsored by O.S.A.I.D. against impaired driving. Tickets and invitations are being circulated now in preparation of the 60th anniversary celebration on June 2. Plans are being made for the Variety Fair on Friday, April 30 with complete opening at noon. They made 'warm fuzzies' from sheepskin, enjoyed a special games night and were treated to a visit from Les Cook of the Blyth Christian Puppeteers, who told some great stories illustrated with balloons.
