THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14, 1993. 60 see sunrise at worship service Easter morning Howson's Grain Elevators, one and one-quarter miles east of Blyth was the location, April 11 at 6:30 a.m. when about 60 people attended and saw a beautiful sunrise at the appropriate time. What a symbol! John Ramirez provided the music on the keyboard. Rev. Ramirez welcomed everyone. Kim Ferguson read scripture from Mark 16: 1-3. Hymn "Morning Has Broken" was sung. Abigail Ramirez read from Mark 16: 4-7. "I Believe in a Hill called Mount Calvary" was rendered by the choir. John Ramirez read Matthew 28: 8-10. "Jesus Christ is Risen Today" was sung by choir and congregation. The choir sang "Because He Lives", at which time the sun burst forth to its peak. Offering was taken by grades seven and eight youth group and dedicated. Hymn "The Day of Resurrection" was sung. The Apostles' Creed was read in unison followed by the benediction and choral response. Everyone was invited back to the church for refreshments. Thanks was extended to 011ie Craig for preparing the Order of Service, to those who participated and also to the U.C.W. for preparing for the refreshments. EASTER /COMMUNION SUNDAY The Sunday School participated in the Easter Service. Leanne Haggitt and Cathy Caldwell were candle lighters. Assisting the greeters, Debbie Craig and Fred Hakkers, were Candice Bearss and Mark Caldwell. The ushers were Ross Clark, Anthony de Boer, Nathan Shannon and Drew Cornell. Maridale Bromley was in charge of nursery. Music was provided by the Director of Music, Phyllis Boak on the organ and John Ramirez pianist. Call to Worship was by Rev. Ramirez. Scripture from Matthew 28: 1-10 was read by Corey Shannon and Michael Haggitt. Hymn "The Day of Resurrection" was sung. Melanie Bearss, Sunday School Superintendent, welcomed all to Family Sunday No. 4 and announced that next Sunday, April • 19 at 10:30 a.m. there would be a tree planting. Rev. Ramirez, on behalf of the church, presented Shawn Clark with a certificate and badge of "Religion and Life." The anthem was "Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?" with flute accompaniment by Kim Ferguson and Erica Clark and Phyllis at the piano. Rev. Ramirez' sermon was "Christ's resurrection — our Hope beyond death." For those who don't believe, it is a judgment. For those who do believe, it is a message of love and hope, he said. Death is not final, there is life beyond that. Seventeen young people were confirmed- (three of whom were baptized). They were: Jennifer Brigham, Kristy Caldwell, Shawn Clark, Jeffrey Ferguson, Kathleen Fraser, Chad Haggitt, Amanda Howson, Julie McNichol, Kandice McNichol, Zoellyn Kara Onn, Abigail Ramirez, Trent Richmond, Margaret Ann Stewart, Greg Toll, Jill Walden, Sandra Walsh and Tara Wilson. "Thine be the Glory" was sung followed by the Benediction and Choral Response. Rev. Ramirez handed out an A community service of sorrow and mourning of Christ's death by crucification was held Good Friday in Bluevale United Church. Rev. Randy Banks and Rev. The combined choir sang the anthem "Calvary Covers it All". Harold Johnston greeted at the door and music was under the leadership of Etoile and Mary Lou Johnston. EASTER SUNDAY SERVICE Rev. Banks headed the processional as the choir entered singing "Jesus Christ is Risen Today". Before the service Milton Boyd and Jack Jenkins played a violin prelude of Easter music. Glen Sellers and Paul Johnston were ushers and Tatum Mathers relighted the Christ Candle. The children gathered at the front of the church and Rev. Banks told them the story of EASTER, relating how E stood for early in the morning, when the women went to the tomb; A, how they felt afraid when they found an empty tomb; S was for see; T, was for go and tell; E was for empty and R, meant Jesus is risen. Easter egg to each person. Flower arrangements were placed in loving memory of Jim Lawrie by his wife Janet and their families. Also placed in the church for Easter were several floral tributes to loved ones by their families and friends. At the last board meeting April 5, the Official Board regretfully accepted the resignation of Rev. Lorenzo Ramirez effective July 31. Rev. Ramirez has accepted a call to Empress United Church in London. He and his family are wished the best in their new charge. Members are invited to the Blyth Felicia Jacqueline Johnston, infant daughter of Kathy Johnston was received into the church through holy baptism. She was joined at the front of the church by her niece, Elizabeth Stinson. Kathy was presented with a baptismal candle and certificate by clerk of session, Jean Mathers. The choir sang the anthem "Thine is the Glory" and the trio, Carol Nicholson,. Eileen Sellers and Mary Lou Johnston sang "Calvary" with Etoile and Mary Lou Johnston as organists. The service closed with the hymn "Christ the Lord is Risen Today". The church was adorned with Easter lilies which were later delivered to shut-ins. The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be celebrated next Sunday. The joys of Easter Sunday were overshadowed by the news of the death of Anna Johnston, a life-long faithful member of Bluevale United Church , the death of Alan Neelon of Winnipeg, who was lay minister at Bluevale from 1958-1960, and also the death of a former member, Mrs. Tom (Mary) Dunn. Prior to the church service Easter breakfast was served in the school room of the church. Community Centre April 24 to help George and Doris Cowan celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
