KINDERGARTEN
Despite the weather, the
Kindergarten class had a good
March Break. Everyone is glad to
be back. A new Easter Unit greets
the returning students. The class is
making big paper Easter bunnies
which are on display for the rest of
the school, in the hallway outside
the classroom. Paper Easter eggs
will be decorated with numbers
from one to 10. New activities will
be introduced throughout the
month, until Easter.
GRADE TWO
Happy March Birthday to
Michelle Nixon, Nathan Spivey,
and Scott Folkard. Students will
soon start egg activities. That will
be fun.
GRADE THREE
Grade three came back from
holidays refreshed and ready to
tackle the final term. They have
been experimenting with magnets
and discovering many interesting
things. We have also been listening
to famous composers like
Beethoven, Mozart and Tchaikov-
sky and learning about the
instruments of the orchestra, in
preparation for a trip to the Centre
in the Square to hear the Kitchener-
Waterloo Symphony perform
"How the Gymquat Found Her
Song". It should be an entertaining
day.
GRADE FIVE/SIX
The grade five students visited
the Kindergarten to give a
presentation on teeth and dental
health using pictures, charts,
poems, collages, stories, tongue
twisters, puppet plays, and a cheer.
The older students presented
information on nutrition, care of the
teeth, how teeth grow, and safety
rules to protect the teeth.
Then the grade fives helped the
younger children make a tooth
puppet. Children from both classes
enjoyed this opportunity to have
fun together and to have a great
learning experience.
The bulletin board outside room
10 displays the results of careful
planning, concentrated efforts, and
perseverance. Students chose
cartoon characters from the
newspaper. The drawing was
marked off in a one-half centimetre
grid system. Then it was
reproduced on a two centimetre
grid system. The grid was erased to
show the finished drawing which
was either shaded or coloured.
Everyone agrees that the results are
great.
The class enjoyed a trip to the
Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony last
week. They thought the
transformation of the Gymquat into

There will be euchre again
Wednesday, April 7.
a loon was the best part of the
entire performance, although they
really enjoyed the jazz music.
The class has been busy adjusting
to their new teacher, Ms Thorpe-
Hearn who has returned from her
maternity leave. Several new units
have been started. The grade sixes
are studying Simple Machines and
doing projects on European
countries.
The grade fives are studying
Flight and Canada.
Together they are writing books,
working on Easter English centres,
and finishing our Mathematics unit
on Division Using Decimals.
GRADE SIX/SEVEN
The grade six/seven have been
deciding on a community project
for the Quest program.
The first place Science Fair
winners were Sjaan Gerth from
grade six, who did his project on
Bridges and Sarah Cowan and
Kendra Folkard for grade seven.
