The youth from the church provided much of the Over 40 students from Huron County who attend London District Christian School will now earn credits for religious studies. The London Christian High School is a member of the Ontario . Alliance of Christian Schools which has been fighting for this recognition for 12 years. Roman Catholic Separate Schools have issued credits for reli- gious instruction since 1978. In a press release from the Alliance, it was stated "Since inde- pendent Christian high schools are distinct from the public system in the same way as the separate schools, Alliance officials felt they were equally entitled to issue cred- its towards the Ontario Ministry of Education diploma." Wednesday, April 21 is the Wingham Voice for Life's 19th annual banquet at the Wingham Presbyterian Church. Dinner starts at 7 p.m. and the cost is $10 per person. Guest is Jacki Jeffs, who will inform on abortion changes now taking place in Ontario. Members were informed that under current guidelines approved by Premier Harcourt's NDP government, British Columbia public school counsellors, school nurses and teachers may freely refer students to abortion agencies. Furthermore, parents of such students need not be informed or consulted beforehand. The message was delivered from Minister of Education, Anita Hagen to Lila Standford, president of British Columbia Teachers for Life and a member of Advocates for Responsible Counselling (ARC). ARC asked Hagen for yes-or-no answers to these two questions: (1) Is there any law or ministry directive which would prevent a Grand Gertie Kellington, the president visited with sick and shut-in members of our order. A pot luck dinner was served in the Lodge rooms at 5 p.m. There was a large attendance at the meeting. Guests were present from Goderich, Clinton, Seaforth and Ilderton. The president was accompanied by Sandy Rhame The U.C.W. will host a meeting for the Health Council in Huron the last week in March. Kathy Workman was in charge of the worship. There will not be a regular Venture Club meeting this Thursday but the group will enjoy a swimming outing at Vanastra on April 3. Next Sunday will be the Spring "guess who is coming for lunch event." Consequently, the principals of the seven Christian high school in Ontario requested equality. The Ministry of Education refused and subsequently, Alliance took court action for the schools. The Alliance requested approval of its religious studies program on a non-guideline credit status and a declaration that the MOE policies on educaiton about religion in the public schools do not apply to pri- vate schools. This final request refers to the Ministry's court decision to limit religion in the public schools. Ministry approval means two courses in religious studies offered at the grade 9 and 10 levels will be applicable to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. public school counsellor, teacher or school nurse from using his/her position to advocate abortion to a school student, or refer her to an abortion agency? (2) If such advocac$i or referrals are permitted is there any law or ministry directive which would determine whether or not the students' parent is informed or consulted before such advocacy of abortion or referral to an abortion agency is made? Spring poem roll call answer The W.M.S. held their meeting Monday morning at the home of Mrs. Freda Scott. Mrs. Garner Nicholson opened with a call to worship and a hymn was read in unison. Mrs. Ivy Cloakey read the scripture and Mrs. Lottie Scott led in prayer. The roll call was answered by a poem on spring. The secretary's report was given by Mrs. Margaret Siertsema and Mrs. Cloakey gave the financial report. Mrs. Nicholson read a poem, "Eight Days Later" and then read some letters by two missionaries sent to the Glad Tidings, one who works in Africa and one from Asia; telling of their troubles and joys the work brings. Another hymn was read and Mrs. Nicholson closed with prayer and the hostess served lunch. Pastor discusses temptations "Have you ever been tempted to defy God; to do your own thing and then challenge God to do His worst?" asked Pastor Carne. The scripture reading for Auburn Missionary Church on March 26 was taken from Hebrews 12: 18-29. One is either summoned to Mount Sinai to the God of the law or to Mount Zion, the God of love. It's only human nature to think one will miss judgement but only if he has received Jesus as his saviour will he go directly to Mount Zion. One must be sure that if God speaks to him that he does not refuse Him by not responding to the call. If one is not serving God, he is not worshipping God. If one is doing God's will, he is a living sacrifice to God, his selfishness is lost as he serves God and others. Special music was provided by Doran Rolston, accompanied by Eric Campbell. Gabrielle Boettcher played a beautiful offeratory on the organ. There will be a 10:30 a.m. service on Good Friday.
