Blyth petitions for road subsidy
A recommendation from the road
committee to petition the Ministry
of Transportation for supplemen-
tary subsidy to accommodate one
more block of Morris Street recon-
struction was approved by Blyth
Council at its March 10 meeting.
The rough estimate was $61,000.
In 1992 the budget raised
$39,700 from the ratepayers match-
ing the basic MTO subsidy and

$17,500 matching supplementary
MTO subsidy for a total of
$57,200.
With the basic subsidy of
$22,050 taken from the estimated
cost for the Morris St. work the
supplementary request for MTO
will be $38,950.
Total monies to be raised in the
1993 budget will therefore be
$38,000 to match the basic subsidy
entertainment, three grand prize,,
draws will be made, as well as four
draws for $25 each. The three
grand prize draws include:
• First prize — four days and three
nights in Renfro Valley, Kentucky
from May 21-24. Arranged by
Robert Q Travel, Clinton and
Hanover Holidays.
• Second prize — two nights
accommodation at Park Plaza and
tickets for two to Miss Saigon.
• Third prize — a relaxing
weekend in comfort at the Best
Western Wheels Inn in Chatham.
and $19,475 to match the supple-
mentary for a total of $57,475.
Clerk Administrator Helen Grubb
noted that Blyth had been very for-
tunate having received the supple-
mentary funding for the past four
summers.
Reeve Dave Lee told councillors
there had been a committed attempt
to hold the amount as close as pos-
sible to the previous year.
Tickets are $5 each or three for
$10. Draws for the trips and money
prizes will be made at the April 23
Music and Magic, a fund raising
event for the hospital.

Councillor Shirley Fyfe, Chair-
person of the committee, said the
increase to ratepayers will be $275.
Councillor Steve Sparling made
the recommendation with the con-
dition that council pursue any
potential grading/paving option on
Morris St., which would save
money.

municipalities of Blyth and Hullett.
"The Blyth/Hullett site has an 18
year life expectancy, so we want to
find out what will Turnberry's
waste will do to that," explained
Ms Grubb. Also she said, if MOE
says, they must go through an
assessment, which would mean a
review of the Certificate of
Approval and a series of public
meetings it would increase costs.
On the plus side consideration
will be given to the money it may
bring into the municipality. "Blyth
and Hullett see it as an opportunity
to keep Huron money in Huron,"
said Ms Grubb. "They are also con-
sidering setting aside 50 percent for
care and maintenance of the site
and using funds to educate resi-
dents about sorting and recycling.
There is a lot of positiveness there,
but there are a lot of things to be
considered first."
