Blyth Bantams sweep semi-final series
By Rusty Blades
The Blyth Bantams started, and
finished, their OMHA Bantam E
semi-final series against Norwich
last week as they swept the series
in three games by winning 3-2 in
overtime on March 18, 2-1 on
March 20 and 4-3 in overtime on
March 21.
Blyth hosted game one and used
their standard late game comeback
for a 3-2 overtime victory.
Christopher Howson and Jason
Rutledge assisted on the only first
period goal as Ryan Chamney
sifted the puck into the open net
with the Norwich goalie out of
position.
Norwich controlled the second
period outscoring Blyth 2-0 to take
a one point lead. The second goal
was scored with only one second
left on the clock and Norwich
enjoying a two man power play.
A red-hot Norwich netminder
kept Blyth off the scoresheet for
most of the third, but Blyth finally
tied the contest with just under
three minutes left in the game.
While enjoying a power play,
Henry Bos drilled a shot from the
point which was stopped by the
goalie. Rutledge, who was left
alone in front, jumped on the loose
puck and slid home the equalizer.
The third period ended in a two-
way tie which set up a 10 minute
overtime period. The line of Howson,
Rutledge and Chamney once again
did the damage with Chamney
slipping in the go-ahead goal midway
through the extra frame.
The story of the game was
Norwich puck stopper Darryl Beam
who continually thwarted the home
team attack, including a couple of
overtime breakaway chances.
Blyth's Chris Lee played a solid
game between the pipes, also, as he
backstopped Blyth to a 3-2 opening
game overtime win.

Harvey recalled the winter of '47

able to get out if they needed to.
