Newlyweds
Madeline and George Rose had double reason to
celebrate Sunday at the Brussels Legion for not only were
they celebrating 60 years of marriage, but they had just
renewed their wedding vows before the reception.

George and Madeline Rose had
two reasons to celebrate on Sunday.
First, they renewed their wedding
vows and secondly, they were cele-
brating 60 years of marriage.
The Brussels couple had their
reception/anniversary party at the
Brussels Legion.
Mrs. Rose is the former Made-
line Parker who was born to Janet
and William Parker in Gravenhurst,
Ont.
Mr. Rose was born in Torrance,
Ont. to Gertrude and Samuel David
Rose.
They were married in Graven-
⢠Legion reps. compete
hurst on March 18, 1933 with Rev.
Fisher officiating. They honey-
mooned on Madora Lake and lived
during the early years of their mar-
riage in Inglewood, Ont.
Mr. Rose has held a variety of
occupations during his lifetime
including delivery person, ice cut-
ter, bee keeper, farmer, Cheltenham
brickyard worker and general
labourer. He retired in 1974.
Mr. and Mrs. Rose had eight
children-five boys and two girls.
All their children attended the
party along with 12 grandchildren
and three great grandchildren,

On Saturday, Feb. 27 District
cribbage was held at the Brussels
Legion. Thirty-two teams competed
with only the top six qualifying for
the provincials which will be
played in Sudbury. Two teams
from the Brussels branch
participated at this level. Winners
were the team from Hespler Br.
272, while a close second was
Wingham Br. 180. Brussels best
playing was the team of Kathy
Haycock, Sandra Josling, Margo
Richardson and Ken Josling who
placed eighth.
On Saturday, March 6 District
darts were held at Br. 586
Hepworth. Brussels was represent-
ed in singles, doubles and team
events. Brussels members played
well but not great and great was
needed against this caliber of
darting talent. Ernie Haycock,
finishing third in the singles, was
the only darter from the Brussels
branch to qualify for the
Provincials which will be held in
London Br. 263 in April. Other
branch representatives were Bob
Richardson, Clint Emmrich and
Eric Ross.
Tuesday night mixed dart
winners on March 2 were : first,
Bill Nethery and Colleen Martin;

The first Brussels I 4H Club
meeting was held at Kathy Bridges
house on Monday, Feb. 22. There
were 10 members present.
It was decided to leave it until the
second meeting to elect the
executive. Forms and 4H cards
Friendship
Club meets
Freda Pipe preluded the March
17 meeting, held at Maple Villa
with special Irish music.
After the singing of the
Friendship Song, Mary Lowe
presided and welcomed all present.
Christine Gibson from Wingham
spoke on the Senior Care Centre
where at a cost of $8 a day seniors
will be provided with transporta-
tion, dinner and entertainment and
crafts.
She also spoke on the Ontario
Senior Games in Wingham on June
7. There is an entry fee of $3 for
each event with competition open
in bridge, cribbage, crokinole,
darts, euchre, golf, horse shoes and
lawn bowling. Once again
transportation will be provided.
More information can be obtained
by calling 357-1440.
Euchre followed with two
members playing crokinole.
Winners were: high man, Isobel
Alcock; low man, Laura Fisher;
high lady, Ethel Brewer, low lady,
Mary Clark and lone hands,
travelling prize, Martha Logan.

cross stitch projects.
The meeting was closed with the
4H motto.
The second meeting was held at
Kathy Bridges on March 1 at 6:30.
Kathy led the election of officers
with the following results:
president, Sherry Baan; vice
president, Clara Glauser and
secretary, Wendy Glauser.
Youth leader, Jacquie Seili
demonstrated the lazy daisy design
and how to do lettering.
Members started working on
stitchery projects. Some have
completed their first cross-stitch
pieces.
The meeting was closed with the
4H motto.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation
had another successful year in
Brussels. Canvassers collected
$1,117.00.
The canvassers were: Betty
Shaw, Ruth Sauve, Mary Lowe,
Marguerite Sanderson, Marlene
Little, Jean Bewley, Barb
McLellan, Lorraine Edwards, Lynn
Cronin, Georgie Hockey, Teresa
Bridge and Kathy Bridge. Their
work was greatly appreciated.
Despite stormy weather there
was a good turnout for the
Shamrock hot casserole and euchre
party sponsored by Morning Star
Rebekah Lodge on Monday, March
15.
After dinner there were 11 tables
of euchre in play.
Prizes were as follows: draw
dinner, Clara Haig; high lady, Kate
Wilson; low lady, Edith Baker;
high man, Les Knight; low man,
Gertie Kellington (playing as a
man); most zeros, Vera Scouller
and most lone hands, Phyllis
Mitchell.
