90 years young

Winners of the March 8 euchre
were: ladies' high, Vi Hoggart;
ladies' low, June Fothergill; ladies'
lone hands, Alberta Stevens; men's
high, Jim McCall; men's low,
Lorne Dale; men's lone hands,
Garner Nicholson and special,
Lillian Appleby.
Greeters at Blyth United Church
March 14 were Lloyd and Donna
Sippel. Ushers were Lenora
Davidson, Gord Jenkins, Steven
Webster and Debbie Root. In
charge of junior congregation was
Bonnie Shannon, while Linda
Wilson was looking after the
nursery.
Rev. Ramirez opened the service
with call to worship. "When
Morning Guilds the Skies" was
sung followed by responsive
reading No. 650, Psalm 95. The
play at the Hall Wednesday
evening.
_Winners were: high lady, Alma
McCallum; high gent, Jim McCall;
low lady, Ella Richmond and low
gent, Harvey Sillib.
Sympathy is extended to Mr. and
Mrs. Scott Fairservice of San
Diego, California in the passing of
their daughter Marilyn on March 2.
She was born in Ingersoll, Ont.,
July 6/49.
Former residents of Blyth, they
moved to California in 1962.
Besides her parents she is
survived by one brother Allan of
Newmarket, Ont.
The Blyth Heart and Stroke can-
vass collected a total of $1,618.
Canvassers this year were: Cap-
scripture reading was taken from
John 4: 5-30 and 39-42. The
anthem was "Since Jesus Came
Into My Heart".
Rev. Ramirez' sermon was,
"Jesus, the Christ, the Life-Giving
Water". The service closed with the
singing of "Jesus Thou Joy of
Loving Hearts" followed by the
benediction and choral response.
The session wishes to thank
everyone who responded to the
Ethiopia special appeal. One
hundred and thirty-six dollars was
raised.
W. Vincent
celebrates
milestone
A Blyth resident, Winnifred Vin-
cent, celebrated her 90th birthday
recently.
Mrs. Vincent was born on March
10, 1903 in Reading Berkshire,
England.
She came to Canada in 1912 with
her parents, John and Alice Allen,
to live in Morris Twp.
Mrs. Vincent married Thomas
Smith on March 28, 1925. He
passed away in 1962. She remar-
ried in 1967, to Albert Vincent,
who passed away in 1974.
She has two children, Amy (Mrs.
Ralph McCrea) of Blyth and Irene
(Mrs. James Lamont) of Belgrave.
For the past 17 years, she has resid-
ed with Amy and Ralph.
The momentous occasion was
celebrated at the McCrea home
with her family and friends.
Her sister-in-law in Basingstoke
Hampshire England, Dolly Smith,
remembered the occasion by send-
ing Mrs. Vincent two carnations
which were grown in her own
greenhouse.
