Majestic learns to shop smart
PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17, 1993.
Couple honeymoons in Vegas
On Wednesday evening, March
10, at 7:30 p.m. Allan Teeft of
Brussels I.G.A, Paula Blagrave
consulting dietitian and Peggy
Keffer, convenor greeted the
members of the Majestic Women's
Institute as they arrived for their
regular meeting at I.G.A.
Approximately 20 members and
guests were then introduced to
guest speaker Paula Blagrave by
Peggy Keffer. As this is National
Nutrition Month Paula took the
ladies on a "Smart Shop" tour of
the store telling which products
were best for health and how to
compare one product with another.
As the ladies left, Mr. Teeft gave
each one a carnation. In
appreciation for letting us use his
store a card of thanks and a gift will
be given to Allan.
After gathering at the library
President Leona Armstrong
welcomed all and opened the
meeting with a poem "Diet". Alice
Brothers presided that the piano for
the "Institute Ode" and the Mary
Stewart Collect was recited.
Secretary-Treasurer Jean Fraser
read the minutes of the February
meeting and also gave the
treasurer's report. Correspondence
was read and dealt with.
Members were invited to an
Open House for Huronlea, the new
home for the Aged and Highland
apartments for seniors on Sunday,

will be set up at Doris McCall's on
Monday, March 22 at 9 a.m.
The nominating committee Kathy
Bridge, Ida Evans and Doris Mccall
will have their slate of officers
ready for the annual meeting on
April 14 at 12:30 p.m. The
membership fee is $15 with the
Institute picking up the rest.
Kathy Bridge and Melody White
are to buy a quilt top to be quilted
for Funfest.
Card party convenors for April 6
are Ruby Steiss, Dorothy Steffler,
Kate Wilson, Verna Tunney and
Melody White. Kathy Bridge
taught her part of Decor Accent on
March 8 and Melody White will be
teaching her part on March 16.
Jean Fraser gave a talk on "A
Slice of Huron", about agricultural
products.
The roll call was answered with
"Name Your Hazard in the Grocery
Store". The motto: "Quality on the
label means quality on the table"
was very well emphasized by the
dietitian on the tour. Shopping is
taken for granted whereas we
should be paying more attention to
what the labels say, and not what
the picture or prizes in the boxes
look like.
Happy Birthday was sung to
ladies with March birthdays.
A silent auction was held
followed with God Save the Queen
and Institute Grace.

The future and the past
This replica of a 1913 Ford Model T delivery truck, which was used by J.M Schneider in the
early 1900s gave shoppers in the Brussels IGA this past week a chance to see a little of
history while shopping in the 'newly constructed store. Four-year-old Dianne Lee, of RR5,
Brussels doesn't seem to be the least bit captivated by seeing a truck in a grocery store as
she helps her mom with the shopping.
EMA becomes Brussels IGA
A familiar local business has a
new look and a new game this
week as Brussels EMA joins the
ranks of Canada's IGA network of
franchised food stores.
Brussels EMA Foods becomes
Brussels IGA, complete with new
signage, new decor and a new mix
of merchandise in the recently-
expanded Tumberry St. store.
"We're proud to bring the IGA
banner to our customers here,"
explains owner/operator Allan
Teeft, "and it's our customer who
will get the real benefits. With an
expanded selection, including new
private label products, we have lots
of reason to be excited."
The Brussels store is one of a
number of local grocers who are
converting to the IGA banner in
southwestern Ontario this week.
Collectively, Canada's 760 'IGA
dealers have developed the largest
single national supermarket banner
in volume and market share. The
stores are owned and operated by
local entrepreneurs who are
engaged in many charity and
community activities, a feature so
widespread it has inspired the IGA
marketing theme, "Hometown
Proud!"
