Community fun-raiser set for April Fool's Day On Saturday, April 3, at 8 p.m. the Blyth Centre for the Arts' "Festival of Entertainment" series presents Canadian humourist, singer, songwriter Nancy White. Best know for her satirical songs on CBC radio, White has been called Canada's voice of liberal guilt. As well as numerous tours across Canada, Nancy's career has taken her to the U.S., Germany and Central America. Her latest recording "Momnipotent" is a collection of 13 songs, mainly about the effect two daughters have on what White claims was "once a fairly normal life." The cassette, subtitled, "Songs for Weary Parents" is not a children's album; it hits right at the core of the full-time parent's exhausting, befuddling, hilarious condition. White takes aim at parenthood and weaves into her hilarious presentation a host of current events and a satirical appreciation for life and love in the True North Strong and Free. One month too early for Mother's Day — and maybe just as well, Nancy White at Blyth Memorial Hall promises to be a laughable excursion into the babyfood- encrusted underworld of parenthood. Tickets are $16.50 each, all taxes included, and are available by calling the Blyth Festival Box Office at 523-9300. The Huron Community Garden is holding a Squaredance Hoedown and contemporary country auction on Friday, Mar. 19 at the Goderich Arena (upstairs). Christine Sutherland, organizer of the event, has arranged for Bill Russell, a nationally known square dance caller to host the square dance. "Bill will put everyone in a great mood" says Christine "you needn't have any experience with square dancing, as Bill will take time to teach everyone the steps. It's not about being perfect, it is simply about having a good time." Also taking part is one of Canada's finest country musicians, Kirk Elliott of Toronto, who is internationally known for his great fiddle music. Kirk, tours as a regular musician with Sharon, Lois and Bram and has his own band Rag and Bone comes to Blyth On Saturday, April 3 at 2 p.m., the Blyth Festival of Entertainment Children's Series presents The Rag and Bone Puppet Theatre's "A Promise is a Promise." An exciting story written by Robert Munsch and Michael Kusugak, the play centres around the exploits of Allashua who goes fishing on the sea ice against her parents' warning, and is captured by the Quallupilluit troll people. The Rag and Bone Puppet Theatre combines vivid puppets and sets with the dramatic music of Nathan Curry. Children's Series tickets are $7, all taxes included, and are available by calling the Blyth Festival Box Office at 523-9300. Kirk and McGoo. With two albums of his original music, Kirk is best known for his song "The Bobby Orr Breakaway". The music begins at 7:30 featuring a young fiddle group and there will be some playful activities for the children, including bobbing for apples, a fish pond and face painting. People are encouraged to "lug-a-mug" and their own juice and potluck hor d'oeuvres. There will be coffee and apple cider and pieces of the homemade pies after they have been judged. The Hoedown will be a "no booze event". The Huron Community Garden is located south of Goderich at the farm of Bev and Bob Budd. Going into its fourth season, the garden has an open membership to anyone The Blyth and District Community `Fun-Raisers' are about to find out just how valuable your nose is. On Thursday, April 1 (appropriately April Fool's Day), they are having a special day called Red-Nose Day. "The idea," says project co- ordinator Karen Stewart, "was given to us by Englishman Jon Oram, director and co-writer of the Blyth and District Community Play Many Hands." "In England even the Members of Parliament join in the fun and wear their red-noses, while trying to hold successful debates," Jon chuckled. To participate in Red-Nose Day all you need is a red nose and a pledge sheet. (A bit of nerve and a desire to have fun also help). Noses and pledge sheets are available at the Play Office (in the new link of Blyth Memorial Hall), and prizes will be given for the most valuable adult nose and child's nose. To qualify you must wear your red BUCK & DOE for Dennis Gregory Dianne Williamson Saturday March 13, 1993 Goderich Arena 8:00 - 1:00 DJ Mugsy's Music Lunch (Age) ABC CANADA THE FOUNDATION TO PROMOTE LITERACY IN CANADA.
