Hamming's happiness
Peter and Antje Hamming of RR 1, Auburn have a happy
marriage as their 55th wedding anniversary attests. The
couple celebrated the anniversary at an open house in the
Blyth Christian Reformed Church Saturday. Note Mr.
Hamming's tuxedo—it's the same one he wore for his
wedding in Holland and was of the few articles of clothing
Mr. Hamming was able to recover following World War II.
Mrs. Hamming's wedding dress was lost but she did
manage to retain a dainty scarf from her wedding day attire
which she also wore to the celebration.

By Suzanne Schultz
The third meeting of the Auburn

after school on Thursday, Feb. 18
at Helen Lapp's home.
During the meeting members
chose a title page, which was
drawn by Christine Lapp. Sarah
ThomEon and Becky Archambault
made peanut butter brownies while
Jessie Elder and Hanna Huizinga
made peanut butter icing to go on
top. Cheryl Lapp and Jennifer
Hakkers made lemon filling to go
into crepes. All the recipes were
from the club book.
Heather Hakkers, youth leader,
organized two games.
The meeting was then closed at 6
p.m. with 411 motto "Learn To Do,
By Doing".
The fourth meeting of the
Auburn Eggs-tra Special Chickens
was held on Feb. 27 at 9:30 a.m.
During the meeting members
read through books and learned
about freezing eggs (it can be
done), deboning chicken, eggs and
cholesterol and how to tell the
difference between old eggs and
new eggs. The recipes made during
the meeting were Canadian
Country Pie and fruit salad with
honey lime dressing. They were
both very good.
Youth Leader Heather Hakkers
played very good games. The
meeting closed at 12:00 with the

Four students
compete for
trip to
United Nations
The United Nations Pilgrimage
for Youth speak-off for high school
students was held in Clinton Mar.
5. Four students took part.
The competition is sponsored by
Oddfellow and Rebekah Lodges in
Huron County. The winner receives
an all expense paid trip to the
United Nations in New York
including other cities in Canada
and the United States on route. The
students taking part were Jennifer
Siemon and Brent WEtrnore from
the Seaforth High School and John
Ramirez and Leanne Lavis from
the Clinton High School. No other
schools in Huron took part this
year.
The speeches were on greetings,
time, racism and violence against
women and children. Each student
then had a choice of an impromptu
topic which was a one minute
speech. Those topics were:
pollution, recycling, favourite T.V.
show, and education.
The winner was Leanne Lavis of
Clinton and the runner up was John
Ramirez of Blyth.
Last year's winner, Kim Bouwers
of Wingham told about her trip last
year. By her enthusiasm it was
plain to see she thoroughly enjoyed
her experience and made many new
friends.
The evening was chaired by
District Deputy President Joan
Bernard of Brussels. The judges
were Don Dunbar, Mrs. Grace Pym
and George Burgin.
Rev. Paul Ross conducted the
service at Knox United Church and
Bernice Gross was organist. There
was hymn-sing. Rev. Ross had
conversation with the children and
Martin Sturzenegger put out the
second linten candle and the Lord's
Prayer was repeated in unison.
Youth pastor
speaks at
Auburn church
The youth pastor, Bob Lewis,
took the March 7 service for the
Missionary Church at Auburn.
The scripture was read from
Ephesians 1: 1-10. There are three
reasons for one to know that their
salvation is secure. All are
predestined to be chosen by God.
God can look down through time
and He knows who will accept or
reject His free gift of salvation.
It is through God's grace one is
saved. Jesus paid the price through
His Sacrificial death on the cross.
It is God's will that one have a
personal relationship with Him.
Upon acceptance of Jesus as one's
saviour, the Holy Spirit will dwell
within the believer to offer comfort
and encouragement.
Rev. Ross's sermon was "How do
I get to the journey's end?" He gave
the pastoral prayers.
The offering was received by
Marinus Bakker and Greg Park and
for the Sunday School brought
forward by Christopher and Kevin
Millian and dedicated.
Hymn "Now Thank We All Our
God" was sung. Rev. Ross
pronounced the benediction and
Amen's were sung.
