Blyth Bantams clinch two more wins in finals • By Rusty Blades The Blyth Bantams put two more wins under their belt last week as they took controlling interest in their W.O.A.A. final series with Normanby. They now lead the six point series five to three as a result of a 10-2 bombing in Blyth on Mar. 1 and a 6-0 whitewash on the road on Mar. 4. On Mar. 1, Normanby scored early but Blyth scored often. Blyth scored two late first period power play goals to take a 2-1 lead after one period. Brian McNichol scored first with assists to Henry Bos and Peter Craig while Craig gave Blyth the lead with a shot along the ice after being set up by Ryan Chamney and Christopher Howson. Chris Stewart deposited a rebound upstairs for the eventual game winner with five and one half minutes remaining in the second frame after Brian Marks had set up Brad Anderson's point shot. The turning point in the game came thirty seconds later when the Normanby netminder was ejected from the game with a five minute high sticking major. Blyth jumped on the replacement puck stopper for two more power play goals and finished the period up by four. Jason Rutledge assisted on both as Howson finished off a three on one goal break before Jonathan Collins' drilled one home from 40 feet out. Five more goals in the third for Blyth and only a single Normanby reply, gave Blyth the victory. Anderson, from Marks got the red light shining early in the third. Anderson and Rutledge then assisted on Blyth's seventh goal as Howson executed a perfect deflection in the slot. Blyth rode the disciplined goaltending of Michael de Jong and the exceptionally inspired play of Brad Anderson as they controlled all aspects of the game, shutting out Normanby. Howson and Rutledge assisted on the only goal of the first as Chamney pounced on a rebound in the slot and whistled one past the Normanby puck stopper. Blyth gained some breathing room in the second as they pumped in three unanswered goals. Craig and Stewart added some insurance on a two on one break as Craig deked the goalie to his knees and flipped home the puck on his backhand. Midway through the second Salverda passed to defenceman Craig, whose shot was tipped in at the edge of the crease by Bos.
