Morris ends year with $3,003 surplus
Morris Township has ended the
year of 1992 with a surplus of
$3,003. Russell Taylor from the
firm of Reid and Associates attend-
ed the Feb. 16 meeting of council
to present the financial statement.
Members of Morris Township
council had a total expenditure of
$31,930.42 for remunerations and
expenses in 1992.
The information was presented as
per the Municipal Act which states
an itemized statement showing the
expenses of each councillor be pre-
pared by the treasurer and submit-
ted to council by Feb. 28.
Total expenses for Reeve Doug
Fraser came to $7,867.79 while
Deputy-Reeve Clem McLellan's
were $6413.24. Councillor John
Duskocy's total was $5,888.15,
Councillor Wayne Riley, $6678.44
and Councillor Bert Elliott,
$5082.80.
The township will apply to the
Ministry of Transportation for 50
percent funding to help with the
construction of a sidewalk in Bel-
grave from Park Drive to the UCO
lot. They are also seeking approval
for the project from MTO.
Council requested the cost of
construction be updated since the
estimate from MTO is one year old.
Brussels Mennonite Fellowship
has planned a Renewal/Revival
weekend for the first weekend in
March.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday
evenings, March 4, 5, 6 the services
will begin at 8 p.m. On Saturday
morning men will gather for a
breakfast fellowship at 8 a.m. and
the ladies at 10 a.m. Harold White
from Minneapolis and Alex and
Grace McCready from Burlington
will be the key resource people for
the sessions.
Activities for children will also
be available.
On Sunday, Feb. 28, Pastor Tom
Warner preached on the theme "In
Between" based on various
scripture references. When one
makes a decision for Christ, there is
no element of gambling involved.
Salvation is a sure thing, for those
who have chosen Christ as their
Lord and Saviour. Christ has never
promised a life free from troubles
on this earth. He himself did not
live a trouble-free earthly life, but
when Christ returns he will return
all powerful as the King of Kings

Sunday, Feb. 28 while Denise
TenPas and Laurie Boven ushered.

Bruinsma of Chatham led both
worship services.
After, the reading of the 10
Commandments the announce-
ments were made. The congrega-
tion is invited to an Open House in
celebration of the 55th wedding
anniversary of Peter and Antje
Hamming this Saturday at 2:30
p.m. at the church.
Also the "Anderson University"
orchestra will be presenting a
Christian music concert on March
12 at 8 p.m. at the Blyth Festival
Theatre. This event is sponsored by
several of the Blyth churches.
Mrs. Thalen is in Clinton
hospital. The congregation will also
uplift Rev. and Mrs. Carne of
Auburn in sincere love and prayer
in the coming weeks.
Jack Fisher, caretaker of the
Bluevale Cemetery was in atten-
dance to discuss the 1992 stone
rehabilitation. Forty-two stones
were repaired. The stones are com-
pleted, but not returned until pay-
ment in full has been received.
Eighteen stones have not been paid
for.
Mr. Fisher said billing will be
sent to Turnberry and then it will
be up to them if they request a
grant from Morris for the remain-
der of the cost.
Mr. Fisher said he only wanted
counciLto know the status of
repairs and the costs involved.
A motion passed rescinding the
backup agreement for fire protec-
tion for Huronlea.
A second by-law was then passed
amending the Blyth Fire Agree-
ment to included the Huronlea
facility.
Applications for building permits
were approved for: Richard Harris,
North Part Lot 23, 24, Conc. 8,
green house; Wallace Nicholson,
Lot 9, Conc. 8, two graineries;
Frank Procter, Lot 7, Conc., 5,
swimming pool and Kevin Pletch,
Lot 2, Conc. 5, residence.
Building Inspector Leo Sanders
advised that he had inspected the

During the Christian Education
Hour some adults watched a video
called "A Man Called Norman",
while others met under the
leadership of Martin Baan
discussing prayer and fasting in
preparation for the revival
weekend.
The Ladies Fellowship meeting
scheduled for Last Tuesday
evening was postponed due to
stormy weather. It will be held this
Tuesday, with Kathy Procter and
Phyllis Fyn in charge.
The weekend was a busy one for
the youth. A parents and youth
meeting was held Friday evening.
On Saturday the youth travelled to
Baden for a volleyball tournament
involving other youth groups. A
tobogganning party has been
planned for March 6 at Pardy's
farm.
The weekly Venture Club will
meet at 7:00 p.m. on March 4
instead of the regular time of
7:30 p.m. because of the Revival
Service.
The sermon title was "Our
Extended Family" and was
formulated with Matthew ch. 22 vs.
22-33 as the basis. The main focus
of the passage was the subject of
"Resurrection". Rev. Bruinsma
stated the church of Jesus Christ
strives to reflect the perfection
which will exist in heaven. We aim
to love those dear and near to us
despite our mutual imperfections,
and flaws. Showing love to our
"Extended Family" is what God
intended for us, so that we will
grow stronger and more mature in
his service.
After the sermon a short slide
show was presented by Edward and
Glenda Brouwer, two missionary
representatives of the Christian
Reformed World Relief Committee
in the Philippines.
During the offering Glenna and
Stacey Buffinga performed a piano
duet. Coffee and conversation in
the fellowship hall was enjoyed
while Sunday school was in
progress.

Clerk Nancy Michie was autho-
rized to advertise for a chief build-
ing official/by-law enforcement
officer/ property standards officer.
Applications are to be presented to
council on March 23.
Council considered a grant
request for The Ark, located in the
village of Brussels.
A letter was forwarded to Sal-
liar= Patch, Ark executive direc-
tor explaining that council feels a
large portion of funds is already
committed to recreation and no fur-
ther commitments can be made.
Council may consider the request
at the later date when the organiza-
tion is established and the annual
operating costs have been estab-
lished.
The drainage budget for mainte-
nance and drainage superintendent
costs in the amount of $38,000 for
the former and $7,000 for the latter
was approved.
A grant of $884.07 was granted
to Wheels Away for expenses in
1992.
Road Superintendent Lloyd
Michie advised council the town-
ship has no legal obligation to
install a roadway at Lot 20-21,
Conc. 1. Several options were dis-
cussed, Mr. Michie will talk to the
property owner, Carl Martin and
report back to council.
Budgeting for roads can not be
finalized as the road allocation
grant has not been received.
Morris will tender for "N gravel
with tenders to be due by March 9.
The gravel will be applied to the
roads in the south half of the town-
ship. It will be tested twice this
year as in the previous year.
Council was told that Roger
Somers would like to sell gravel,
but will not tie the gravel up with
one contractor as he had done in
the past.
A grant of $50 was given to the
Lung Association.
Two clocks were ordered at $50
each to donate to Huronlea.
A grant of $125 was given to
Blyth Theatre.
A by-law passed entering into an
agreement with Brussels to allow
users in Morris township to hook
up to the village sanitary sewer.
Council was advised that water
billings for Huronlea will be for-
warded to the township office and
then Huronview will be billed.
A motion passed that Morris
Township Waste Disposal Agree-
ment with Brussels be amended to
include only net capital costs for
1993. All future capital costs will
be discussed at a joint meeting
prior to incurring the expense.
Council advised Mrs Michie to
notify Brussels that Morris does not
know what the perpetual costs for
the site will be.
Council was presented with a let-
ter outlining the reasons why CNR
will not pay the invoice for weed
cutting on the CNR track.
Reeve Fraser added that county
council has authorized weed in-
spector Joe Gibson to investigate
the matter and collect the funds for
the weed cutting.
Thirty pins will be donated to the
Blyth Scouts for their trip to the
1993 Jamboree.
The agreement for the Belgrave
Community Centre Board was
adopted.
Councillor Riley reviewed the
budget for the Brussels Community
Centre. Council approved the bud-
get in the amount of $215,103.85.
Reeve Fraser, Deputy-Reeve
McLellan, Councillors Elliott and
Riley, Mrs. Michie and Mr. Michie
will attend the Huron County
Municipal Officers /meeting on
April 1. The membership fee of
$25 will be paid.
Council had not objections to
gravel extraction from Lot 6, Conc.
2 being added to the list for High-
way 4 construction in 1993.
Deputy-Reeve McLellan dis-
cussed the dog counting procedure
and advised council that the dog
counter must follow the regulations
established by council.
