The congregation of the Auburn
Missionary Church was shocked
and saddened by the sudden death
of Mr. Gerald Camplin, son-in-law
of Pastor and Mrs. Jim Carne on
Feb. 23. While enroute to Gerald's
funeral, their daughter, Joy Collins
and her husband Warren and their
two-year-old daughter, Victoria
were involved in an auto accident.
Joy did not recover from her
injuries and passed away Feb. 26 at
Owen Sound hospital.
Through prayer and their love of
Jesus, Pastor Jim and Lorraine
Came will be comforted in these
difficult days.
As a result of these tragedies, the
youth pastor, Bob Lewis conducted
the service Feb. 28.
His scripture was taken from
Psalm 18 where David is praising
God for being his rock of strength
through troubled times. No tragedy
is too great for God to conquer. Just
as David, as a great warrior,
learned to climb the rocks to rise
above his enemy in battle, one must
strive to use the rock of God as
one's fortress.
One must strive to put his
security in God not in one's wealth
or possessions. If one uses the
wrong things as his rock. Satan will
use those rocks to put up a wall
keeping one from God.

beautiful duet, "He Walks With

Scrimgeour voted off
council road committee
By Lisa Boonstoppel-Pot
A motion to install Councillor
Doug Scrimgeour on the Blyth
Council Road Committee was
defeated at council's Feb. 23 meet-
ing.
Councillor Robbie Lawrie
brought up the idea. "I think coun-
cil would be remiss if they don't
have on the road committee a coun-
cillor who has over 30 years experi-
ence in the trade. It's totally wrong
that he (Doug Scrimgeour) isn't on
the committee," he said.
"Someone of his calibre should
be on the committee when we have
a job this size coming to the vil-
lage."
He was referring to the recon-
struction of Hwy 4 through the vil-
lage as part of the province's
overhaul of the highway.
Councillor Shirley Fyfe won-
dered out loud if Councillor Scrim-
geour's presence would pose a
conflict of interest because he is
president of Radford's. Councillor
Lawrie said he didn't believe there
would be as long as Councillor
Scrimgeour declared any conflict.
Clerk-Treasurer Helen Grubb
interjected and said because the
construction involved a PRIDE
grant, it should be dealt with by a
full council.
"Let council handle this," said
Councillor Lawrie. "I'm not talking
about just this project, I'm talking
about all road projects in the vil-
lage."
Councillor Scrimgeour said he
didn't know Councillor Lawrie was
going to bring this up but said he
found the whole issue "intriguing."
"When I first came on council, I
was on the road committee. Then it
disbanded. Now it's starting to get
intriguing. I'm wondering what
there is that I can't see?" he asked.
He said he had a problem with
the fact that council was off and on
about the road committee and
added there should be some consis-
tency.
The matter was called to a vote.
Councillor Scrimgeour and Laurie
voted in favour while Councillor
Shirley Fyfe and Reeve Dave Lee
voted against. The motion was
defeated.
