C it izen 523-4792 or 887-9114 Women from Guatemala invite Christians around the world to unite with them for World Day of Prayer services on March 5 to pray that all people will be used by God as instruments of healing. The service has been prepared by women whose peoples have lived in co-operation, not competition, with the earth. Their country is exhausted by immense social problems and sin but these women still ask, in this U.N. Year for the World's Indigenous People, "What does it mean to be the people of God and instruments of healing?" The voices of seven Guatemalan women woven through the order of worship, give powerful testimony through scripture readings, poetry and song to their love for and commitment to their suffering nation. In Canada, the World Day of Prayer is sponsored by the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada, a national council with representatives from 11 denomina- tions. Local services are organized by ecumenical committees in more than 2,000 communities across Canada, with each church taking a turn to host the annual service. The offerings from the services are used to provide study and worship resources, to cover costs of printing and distributing the services, and to support ecumenical projects in Canada and abroad. The services in this area will be held on Friday, March 5 at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Brussels, 7:30 p.m. and in Blyth at St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with children's story hour and nursery at the Blyth Christian Reformed Church.
