from Hebrews 12: 14-18. Pastor
Carne declared that without
holiness one will never know God.
Through God's discipline in one's
life, one is lead to live in purity.
This discipline will cause one to be
more sensitive to the needs of
others which is not one's natural
tendency, he said. One can never be
holy by his own efforts but needs to
draw on the grace of God to bring
about this attitude.

Missionary church hires two youth pastors
An excellent attendance and a
sense of excitement characterized
the Auburn Missionary Church
annual meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
James Campbell, chairman of the
Official Board, led in devotions and
presided.
Pastor James Came stated that
1992 had been an "annus mirabilis"
(a wonderful year) for the church,
quite unlike the "annus horribilis"
by which Queen Elizabeth
described the year for her.
Fourteen came to saving faith in
Christ and 12 others sought the
Lord for deepening. David and
Debra Rodges and Diane Baechler
left to serve as missionaries in
Papua, New Guinea and the
Phillipines. Sunday School
attendance grew by four per cent to
an average of 73. Average
attendance for the morning service
grew by 12 per cent to 94, but
attendance at the evening service
fell by an average of two to 54.
Attendance at Kids' Klub runs
between 30 - 40 and youth
attendance ranges from 20 - 35. A
Men's Fellowship had been
organized with Clarke Teal as
president, Rick Packer, vice-
president and Roger Newcomb
On Sunday, Feb. 21, Art and
Corrie Bos were greeters at Blyth
Christian Reformed Church.
In the announcements it was
mentioned that choir practice is
Thursday evening at 8 p.m.
Enthusiastic singers are encouraged
to attend. Also Bert and Carol
Reinink were blessed with the birth
of a little baby girl. Deb Siertsema
and Darlene Vander Veen sang two
selections at the service.
After the "Assurance of Pardon"
and a "Hymn of Praise" the
baptism of little Jacob William
Nonkes took place.
The song of response to the
baptism was chosen by the parents
Eric and Giena and was entitled
"Shine Jesus Shine".
Scripture for the sermon was
taken from Genesis, chapter 2,
verses 15 to 25, with verse 24 as
the focal text.
Rev. Heersink reflected on the
tremendous breakdown of the
family structure in today's society.
He said, "Many Christian families
are also affected by the erosion and
break-up of the family unit."

Six outreach breakfasts were
held. Pastor Came made 300 calls,
54 of which were in homes not
visited before, while the laypersons
of the church made 500 calls. Nine
adults and youth were baptized and
five new members received,
bringing total membership to 39.
Financially, Missions giving
increased an unbelievable 104 per
cent to $39,788. Total giving
through offerings increased by 30
per cent to $93,606. When a
personal gift to the church is added
the increase becomes 64 per cent
and total giving becomes $118,606.
In other committee reports it was
noted that a new attached garage
had been added to the parsonage,
new cupboards and sinks had been
installed in the church basement, a
copier and vcr had been purchased,
and a new sign had been erected on
the eastern perimeter of the village.
The Official Board recommended
that Bob and Donna Lewis be hired
as part-time youth pastors. The
recommendation was adopted.
Treasurers David and Dianne
Baan, reporting for the budget
committee, recommended a budget
However, said Rev. Heersink,
"God intended Christians to
provide their children with the first
institution ever created 'the
family'".
"Christian homes are made up of
imperfect people," he said, "and
often behind the nice rosey exterior
lies much pain, struggle and
hurting."
His concluding comments were
that with Christ's help, no matter
what our situation, we become
healed and renewed through the
Grace of God. Our marriages and
families need Christ's healing
power to create harmony and
balance.
Rev. Heersink also commented
on the fact that Eve was created not
to be inferior to Adam but to live in
harmony with him. As husband and
wife we aim to complement and
build each other up through
submittance to Christ.
The hymn of response to the
message was No. 269 "Unless the
Lord of the House Shall Build".
The afternoon service was held at
