A local goalie helped a seven-
member team win the regional
'Ultimate faceoff' competition in
London and advance to the national
level in Toronto recently.
Ken Siertsema, 28, of RR 3,
Blyth, along with teammates from
Goderich and London, had the
skills to capture the regional cham-
pionship of Ultimate Faceoff, a
competition involving hockey relat-
ed skills.
To beat other competitors, Mr.
Siertsema and his teammates had to
skate a relay race, a pylon race, do
penalty shots, rapid fire shots and
accurately shoot pucks at a shot
board. They also had to play a three
on three game of hockey.
This win led them to the national
competition in Toronto where Mr.
Siertsema and teammates were put
up at SkyDome.
Sixteen teams competed from
across Canada and the team Mr.
Siertsema played on placed fifth.
"There was pretty good hockey
being played there," he said.
For placing fifth, each member
received hockey pants.
The winning team went on to
play the NHL Oldtimers in a tele-
vised game on TSN.
Mr. Siertsema is currently a
goalie with three teams, the Park-
house Rangers in Goderich, the

Paul Klopp, MPP Huron
announced Feb. 12 on behalf of
Environment and Energy Minister
Bud Wildman, that the Mid-Huron
Landfill Site board in the Township
of Goderich will receive $30,000
for a weigh scale to be used at the
site. The funds will be provided
under the province's Municipal 3Rs
Program, an initiative that has been
successful in making the 3Rs-

daily life for Ontario residents.
"I am pleased to be able to make
these funds available to Goderich

being generated by the
community."
Ontario's successful waste
diversion programs have diverted at
least 420,000 tonnes of valuable
resources from landfill sites each
year.
"I am confident we will reduce
the waste going into Goderich
Township's local landfill site by at
least 50 per cent by the year 2000,"
MPP Klopp said. "We can all be
proud of the success of the our
efforts to protect Ontario's
environment."
