The Blyth Bantams swept their
best three out of five playoff series
with Stephen Township last week
by recording two devastating home
ice triumphs.
Blyth hosted game two on Feb.
15 as they built a 5-1 second period
lead before doubling the score in
the third for a 10-2 blasting of the
Stephen Township squad.
Defenceman player Henry Bos,
known as "The Scoring Machine"
earlier in his career, enjoyed his
return to the forward ranks with a
legendary offensive outburst. Bos
scored four big goals, including
two short-handed tallies and a
power play effort, as well as
picking up a power play assist to
lead Blyth to victory. Linemates
Michael de Jong chipped in with
two power play goals to go with
one assist and Mike Salverda set up
three goals.
The line of Ryan Chamney,
Jason Rutledge and Christopher
Howson were also hot as each
recorded a goal. Rutledge and
Howson added single assists while
Chamney notched two helpers.
period play with Wingham replying
53 seconds later for the 1-1 tie
heading into the third period.
Sunday afternoon in Brussels,
Brad Carter scored shorthanded to
give the Bulls an early first period
lead. Jeff Coulter on the powerplay
increased the lead to 2-0 late in the
second period and Sam Kulafofski
scored minutes into final period
action for the win. Trevor Fortune
who made 25 saves, including 14 in
the final period, lost his shutout bid
with seven minutes remaining in
the game.
The Formosa 3-Stars were Jason
Baier, Brad Carter and George
Carnegie.
In other league semi-final action
the Hanover Barons pounded
Grand Valley 13-0 in their opening
game.
Brian Marks rounded out the
scoring for Blyth. Other game
assists went to defence players
Peter Craig with three, Brad
Anderson and Jonathan Collins.
Chris Lee had a solid game
between the pipes but the story of
the game was passing and puck
control by Blyth, who had the
luxury of going with three forward
lines.
The brooms were out in full force
in Blyth on Feb. 18 as Blyth's puck
wizardry continued. Blyth
completed the series sweep with a
convincing 12-1 bombing.
Every skater recorded at least one
scoring point in the game except
Greg Toll who, unfortunately, had
to leave the game due to a fractured
arm. Blyth pounced on Stephen
Township early putting the game
out of reach with six goals before
the game was nine minutes old.
Three more goals in each of the
second and third periods sent Blyth
into the W.O.A.A. Bantam 'E'
finals with this 12-1 score.
Brian McNichol and Ryan
Chamney provided the offensive

The Brussels Pee Wee Reps
travelled to Drayton on
Wednesday, Feb. 17 for the fourth
game in the best of five series. This
game like the other three of the
series was end to end action.
The two hard skating teams
remained scoreless through the first
period. Two minutes into the
second period Andrew Exel scored
assisted by Corey Newman. Then
about halfway through the period
Chad McCallum really got the
crowd roaring when he popped one
in assisted by Exel to put Brussels
up two.
In the third Brussels protected
their lead. With 3:27 left on the
clock Drayton scored to bring them
within one.
The Brussels Pee Wee Reps now
advance to the WOAA final against
Ripley. Game one of the series is in
Ripley Feb. 22. Game two will be
in Brussels Friday, Feb. 26 at 8:45.
