The Walton Women's Institute
met Wednesday evening, Feb. 17 at
the home of Berva Watson,
program co-ordinator who brought
ideas on the theme for another year.
Berva presented a very
interesting film on growing herbs,
along with some ideas on how to
use herbs, feeding the garden,
harvesting and cooking of the
*different herbs. Everyone received
a package of herbs.
The roll call was well answered
with different hobbies enjoyed by
each member.
Waiting for take-off
Devon Blake of RR 2, Blyth waits on his dad's snowmobile amidst a crowd of snowmobilers
before he and his family took off on the Walton Area Sports Club's annual poker rally held
Sunday. Organizers sold 428 hands, making it a successful event for the club which uses
funds raised to support minor sports. A Brussels snowmobiler, Beth Crawford, won the $100
first prize with four kings. Second prize went to Brad Newton of Listowel and third to Henry
Grobbink of the Walton area.

with wool
Submitted by Dianne Dolmage
The Walton Plus 41-1 Club held
its introductory meeting for project,
"Working with Wool" at the home
of Ruth Schade on Monday, Feb.
15 at 7 p.m. Members present
included Loni Horst, president;
Dawn Roden, secretary; Dianne
Dolmage, press reporter; Corinne
Leonhardt; Theresa McClory;
Alecia Dalton and Jennifer.
The 4H pledge was followed by
an interesting Lubbers activity
dealing with the stages wool goes
through to become yam.
Members started knitting sample
#1 using casting on, knitting and
purling techniques. For homework,
they are to work on that activity
along with creating a title page for
a creative club name to be voted on
