Legion members host events
In recognition of St. Valentine's
Day, president Mary Lowe opened
the Feb. 17 meeting of the
Friendship Club with a poem
explaining the origin of sending
valentines on Feb. 14. Fifteen
members were present. After the
opening ceremonies, the secretary
and treasurer's reports were
adopted.
A discussion followed
concerning the newly formed
"Gracious Living" sponsored by
Town and Country which will
serve the Brussels, Morris and Grey
area. Meals will be served every
two weeks on Thursday at the
United Church. The cost will be
$6.00 plus entertainment to follow.
Anyone interested in this
endeavour can call Mrs. Nelva
Scott for more information.
Freda Pipe read a humorous
poem "Signs of Age".
The next meeting will be held on
March 17 at 2 p.m. at Maple Villa.

being awarded to Adah Smith and

The Brussels Legion had a very
busy week.
On Saturday, Feb. 13 there were
fraternal doubles darts in Goderich.
Brussels sent four teams to
represent the Branch. In all, 22
teams participated. Ernie Back and
Bob Elliott had the best placing for
the Branch with a fourth. The next
fraternal sporting event will be
bowling on March 20 in Goderich.
Results of the blind draw mixed
darts held on Feb. 16 are as
follows: Kathey Cochrane and
Lawrence Machan, first; Kitty
Rutledge and Adam Smith, second;
high shooter, Gord Jacklin (107).
The darters would like to wish
Kitty Rutledge a very happy
birthday on Feb. 26.
Euchre was held on Wednesday,
Feb. 17 with the following taking
home prizes: high lady, Clara Haig;
high man, Bill Little; low lady,
Kitty Rutledge; low man, Verna
Tunney; most lone hands, Willis
Knight and Dorothy Dilworth;
most zeros, Dini Nethery and
Albert Quipp.
The next euchre will be held
March 3.
On Friday, Feb. 19, the branch
was transformed to a hot sunny
beach for its beach party pub night.
Despite the very cold temperatures
outside, people relaxed inside with
a game of beach volleyball,
hummed a few tunes, passed along
lifesavers and swivelled their hips
with the hula hoops. Debbie
Trollope and Sandy Huether were
chosen as the most appropriately
dressed for the beach fun.
By the end of the evening you
could almost feel the warm gentle
breezes blowing in off the Gulf
coast. However, reality struck and
shorts and t-shirts had to be
replaced with coats and snow suits.
Public speaking will take place at
the Brussels Legion Hall on Feb.
24 at 8 p.m. Everyone is invited to
the branch to listen and support all
the speakers.
Provincial Service Officer Mel
Harper will be visiting the Branch
on March 3 at 5:30 p.m. If you
have not contacted the Branch with
your intent to attend please do so as
soon as possible.
